I'm looking for the best factory replacement seat belt option. I don't have anything to work with.

I went with Morris Concepts three point belts. not original but safer and like the new cars they have the shoulder harness built in. A little pricey but well worth fit for piece of mind

I went with Morris direct fit. I will eventually do it for all my keepers. I’m so used to the lap and shoulder as one set now.

I also did MORRIS. Until then, I had never used the shoulder belts in my 71.

Hmm,   I think I'll get a set, I don't use the shoulder belt but should.

In Ohio if they don’t see the shoulder belt they will pull you over. You can generally get out of it with good explanation but it’s not worth the hassle. Besides taking down and putting up the original shoulder belt will destroy the headliner.

I'll have to look into those. I use the shoulder belt at the track. I have a set of expired RJS racing belts but my last trip to VMP I was advised tech inspection would fail me for those.

I'd think it would be hard to get outta a ticket for the shoulder belt not being  worn since it is a factory piece. My cougar isn't equipped with a shoulder belt.

I just have the stock belts in mine, I use shoulder belt because the lap belt don't fit around since I repositioning the seat. I'm sure it's that not because I gained weight 🤣

Those of you who know me, wearing seat belts are not my thing. But i do have a question, what year did seat belts come out? I am guessing around 1963. right?   Wondering if i can register all of my Montes as  '62s?????   lol

Ford offered them as an option In 55 although they’ve been around longer than that. They were mandatory in 68. The broadcast sheet on my 64 Buick shows the front belts checked, but not the rear.

I belive 63 was an option and were required on 64 model year but not 100 percent sure about that. They were around before that but they chose not to put them in because of expense. N Y requires them in all cars now, my brother had to put them in his 26 Ford for ny inspection along with a windshield wiper too.

FYI, The female end of the belts are different for bench seat vs bucket seats.

I bought them both because I have a pair of bucket seats I was going to swap out my bench seat with but haven't yet.

Here is a picture of them both.IMG_0383-1.thumb.JPG.7ffbd6e6d79701dad6333a2031772e64.JPG

According to Google, seatbelts started appearing as a factory option in automobiles in 1949 with Nash Motors offering them. They were not widely adopted and were considered an option rather than a standard feature. Seatbelts were not made standard until 1968.

1949 Nash Motors was the first company to offer seatbelts as an option

1955 Ford offers seatbelts as an option

1958 Saab becomes the first manufacture to offer seatbelts as standard equiptment

1960 Seatbelts become optional in virtually allvehicles in the United States

1968 Seatbelts become standard equipment in US vehicles.

my Morris belts arrived last night.  The install looks pretty simple, may put them in tonight.

If you got the same ones I did it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes per side. Easy.

Driver side works great, the passenger side takes two hands to adjust the buckle and doesn't have much tension in the spring to retract the belt.

Update:  Billy Morris called me this morning and talked me through the issue.  Passenger side is all set, belts are working as expected.   I'm happy to have the additional shoulder belt safety feature.

Thanks for the update, having that kind of support is a plus these days
