I bought a 1970 Monte Carlo Red/Black top in May of 2024. Until then i was working on restoring a 69 Chevelle SS. I got the Monte because of memories of my father owning one when i was a kid. Due to rot on the roof, the vinyl top was removed and a new roof panel installed, as well as patches to the normal rust areas on the lower fenders/quarters. I think its a car with beautiful lines thats eclipsed by the "standard" GM muscle cars. It came from the factory with a center console and bucket seats. Until now, I've used chevelles.com as a reference when i have repair/restoration questions, but now I realize that not everything that applies to a Chevelle applies to a Monte. So that's why I'm here. Right now I'm in the middle of replacing the transmission, so its up on jack stands, but once that's done ill post more pics.  I'm just a hobbyist and consider my restoration skills to be intermediate for an amateur.

Jim, Welcome to the FGMCC site! Most of us have been where you are on your Monte. There is a lot of information on the site about these cars. Questions?,ask away, you will get someone to chime in and get your questions answered. Been here way too long for me (I think about 20 yrs),was on the forum looking for answers and then made the choice to become a member. Yes, there are some things that go with the Chevelles on these cars, but these are "special "in some areas.  We have many members out on the "island" in New York. I'm sure they may be in contact with you at some point. If you haven't seen, we have 2 shows coming in this summer, Carlisle ,Pa. in June, and Syracuse in July (look in the events section). It would be great if you could make it to either one(with or without your Monte),and meet some of the members. Glad you picked up a 1st Gen Monte Carlo.

Welcoming Mike. We have a great group here, so ask anything you need. Most of us are not professionals either but we seem to get it done.

Good Morning Michael and welcome to the club website.  Congrats on buying the best year of Monte Carlo.  We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member of the club. There is a log of great information here on the boards and in the minds of our knowledgeable members.  I hope you would give some consideration to attending our Eastern Meet in Carlisle, PA next month.  We currently have 48 members signed up to attend.

We love pictures so keep them coming.

Welcome to the dark side Mike.... :k

Nice score.

Definitely NOT the dark side here at the FGMCC.  You have come to the most positive place for a First Gen Monte Owner.

Maybe not the "dark side", but when it comes to the spotlight that has shone on Chevelles and Camaros for so long, every candle/lighter/welding torch lit for Monte Carlos is a welcome addition. ;)
