I got into a minor fender bender last week no one was hurt and I didn't think my truck was that bad but insurance adjuster was here yesterday and looks like they may total it out. I'm definitely gonna keep the truck it runs and drives well and I'm not prepared to buy a new one with all the medical bills I've accumulated so I guess I'll just bank the money and wait a bit.

That’s all it takes to total the truck? I must be missing something. Not sure about NY, but here in California, you get a salvage title on a vehicle that’s been totaled, which really kills the sales value.

Not quite sure about that yet, they said if the damage is 75 percent of the value they will total it and I guess the damage is up around 11 k. But we'll see when they call.

That’s too bad, I think I’d take the money and run too.

From the angle of the photo, it looks like just a front fender, mud flap, and some paint on the rocker panel.

I cannot tell if the paint on the door is messed up or not, but even at that, a fender, a door, and some paint, shouldn't even come close to $11k. I'd get quotes from a couple good body shops with honest reputations and see how that compares to the adjuster's quote. I would think it would be more like around $5k painted and done.

No both doors are dented and cab corner is busted up, quater panel has a slight dent in it too. It's more than just paint but we'll see what they say I may just patch it up a little and drive the wheels off it for a while.

If it still runs and gets you to where you need to go, I say live with it.

In 2020, my '04 Monte was appraised at $11,000.00 damage, but book valued at $3700.00.....

So I let them right it off, and bought it back for $1800.00.

She still starts on the first turn every time, and when she finally wears out I won't feel bad about having wasted $11,000.00 to make her "pretty".  ;)

Someone broadsided Karen in a Honda civic years ago. We got a 3200 check from insurance. I went to the salvage yard and got color matched doors( they were even faded correctly) and fixed a few other things and it in total cost me 240 bucks. Wasn’t insurance related but I just sold a minivan I got for nothing that has a smashed driver door. Same thing, salvage yard, color match 65 bucks.

I found a hood and trunk lid that matched for $300.00, so I swapped them.

And in 2022, the hail came back again.

$300.00 down the drain.  :(

This was a 2020 Honda that hit me. The only reason I know that Is because the emblem was laying on ground near my truck it tore the front end off her car had to be towed away.

That’s the spill I hear from my insurance agent every 6 months when I get my insurance bill.. “oh, well, parts and labor are so expensive now “.. my truck is 11 years old and if you carry full coverage on it , they would take the cheapest way out if there was an accident.. condemn it and we’ll sell you insurance on your new truck :)… at a higher rate $$$$ of course…

A few years back, My wife's truck was hit on the drivers side.  The guy hit her a glancing blow from behind and coming up to pass her.  It broke the tie rod end, and they needed to replace the fender, hood, grill, tie rod end, spindle, and I don't remember what else.

The estimate was just under 10k, and that was for a new truck.

I bumped into a Cadillac 6 weeks ago in the drivers rear door and the ins co totaled her older model car because it was high mileage. It almost $5500 to fix our Envision, bumper and headlight were all that were damaged. $1800 headlight and $1500 bumper

Wrecks don’t total cars.it’s the cost of parts and repairs that total cars.cars total at 65-75 percent of its value.most of the times it a state law and insurance companies are always going to take the most cost effective way out. How do I know 36 years in the repair business

Correct. The sum of the individual parts will far, far, far exceed the cost of a replacement. That’s why our insurance rates are so high, most cars are totaled upon air bag deployment. My newest vehicle is 12 years old ( as I don’t drive much) but we all get lumped into the newer car replacement pool.

They are going to total out my truck,  I'm waiting for the guy to call with my options. Pretty sure I'll keep it and bank the settlement until I find something else.

Years ago, I was driving up north at night and hit a retread on I95 ☹️ Ripped the front license plate off, dented the bumper, and so on. Luckily didnt affect any of the front sensors. Body shop quote, for the bumper alone was 1K, then all the other add ons. I declined, I figured I couldn't see the damage when I was driving it 🤣

That being said, I'll be at the dealer tomorrow replacing the windshield, didnt even get out of FL this trip before I heard a loud pop and saw the crack. Check the box for those having enclosed trailers for their Montes
