DTreen Posted May 31 Posted May 31 First time owning a classic car and not the most mechanical guy but willing to learn. Hoping to get some help from all of you when the time comes. Purchased from the original owner (documented), was restored about 12 years ago. Appears to be very solid with 66k miles. Base model with 350. Looking forward to learning from all of you. Let me know if anyone is from the west side of Indianapolis or the surrounding area. 9 Quote
Dtret Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Dennis from the East side of Cincinnati. Not to far. Welcome to the group, between all of us we can be you guiding light ( too much? lol ). Just ask away we all had to learn somehow, mostly by asking questions and trial and error. Me mostly the error part. Great looking car by the way. Looks like a show winner to me. 6 Quote

Rob Peters Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Welcome aboard the boards Dwight. That is a very nice and very original Monte. Don't worry about it not being a highly optioned car, look at it this way, the more options, the more that could go wrong. The good thing about many of the older cars, before a lot of computer driven stuff is they are a bit easier to work on. On my two older cars I can pretty much just dive in and work on them without a lot of assistance. For things I am unsure of on the older ones and on the newer ones I have found viewing a number of "You-Tube" videos. I never just watch just one because there are some out there that just are not that good. In a few weeks we will be holding a large meet in Carlisle, PA. We currently have 52 members registered with me. It is a great way to meet a large number of our members in the same place at the same time and see a large number of first gen Monte's. We would love to see you become a full fledged dues paying member of the club and join us at this large meet. We would love to see you and your beautiful 72 Monte there. rob 4 Quote
Marks71 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Welcome Dwight, congratulations on finding what looks to be a real nice and solid Monte. There is a lot of knowledgeable members here that can help you with anything that should arise. You might want to pick up a service manual dedicated to the 72. There are a few that most of us have that can be very helpful. If you’re interested, a few of the computer savvy members could put out the links to the ones most useful. They are available in digital and book form. 2 Quote

Dtret Posted June 1 Posted June 1 I seen the post on marketplace and read through it. Really nice car and the asking price wasn’t too bad. Don’t know what the final price was, don’t care. But I think you did just fine. That’s definitely something to be proud of. Congratulations. 3 Quote
Leghome Posted June 1 Posted June 1 35 miles NE of INDY here welcome. We get out to Danville/North Salem quite often. Daughter lives on Danville her in-laws in N Salem where my granddaughters horses are. There is a Cruise in at the Lowe’s in Avon on saturdays we go to once in a while while my Jamey goes regularly with his white 91 Camero with an LS1 in it. We should plan a meet up out there. Also the last weekend in June the National Monte Carlo of North America is holding their Nationals in Fairfield OH on the SE side of Dayton and the FGMCC is holding a mini meet in at the same place the Holidat Inn Fairfield 1 Quote
