A 2,800 stall converter will live happy with that cam and gear ratio. It probably has very little vacuum too. Your power disc brakes will need a vacuum pump to operate correctly. Leeds Brakes has what you need. Rumpity,Rumpity goes that cam! Back in the day we built a SBC for a Vega (similar to your set-up).Lunati cam .500" lift ,300deg. duration, Turbo 350,4:10 12 bolt Posi (used complete Don Hardy kit in car). That was blast to drive.

I have a ssb kit already installed its temporarily on the fender will eventually be mounted on frame rail. So cant notice it....also tci recommends 3400 stall hughes recommends between 2900 and 3200. I was either gonna go b&m 2900 to 3200 stall or hughes 3000 stall. Bith have great reviews...any thoughts or wich maker i should choose? Dont have $$ for custom. Also can i use reg 168 flex plate or do i need a reccommended manufacturer one in thinkin thy just want yu drop 400 bucks on a flex plate..

You know theres great reveiws and then theres these horror stories. ...companys dont stay in business for over 40 yrs for makin garbage...most of these have to be from people not installing correctly or getting trans coolers. Ect...i would think

Assuming you're going with the 168 tooth plate, there are several vendors that make what you're looking for.

The summit one has good reviews, and it's not overly expensive.

Personally I'd stay away from the 153 tooth plate... As explained in another thread, I had issues with the offset starter. Anything with higher compression with be hard on the plate.

Speedway Motors has a chart that explains the differences. You might get some better insights into what you'll need from it.  ;)

That'll add to the torque needed to turn the engine over.

I ordered new 168 dual bolt flex plate. From summit arp bolts and went with a boss hoss 2800 to 3200 converter. Hughes seamed maybe lil better quality but didnt have anything like that. Thy had a 22 to 25. And a 25 to 3000...the next was 3 to 3500. I thought maybe a lil high. I can always send back to summit if i change my mind

That sounds like a good choice for "stoplight to stoplight" driving..... Which is what you're aiming for with the combination you're building. :)

I'm thinking that any cam with that king of lift/duration uses the 1.6-1 rockers.

Montelishi has them, the builder went with the Edelbrock kit (cam, intake, carb, etc.) when he built it.

Yeah... I went the other way with Montelishi.

The 350 is pretty much an LT-1 spec engine, but I chose a 200r4 and 3.31 gears. (still have the 2.73's)

Most of my driving is open road, so getting 24 mpg (Can gal) was more appealing. And it's easier on the RPM's.  ;)

First summer with the TH350 was a learning experience.... 60 mph @ 2800-2900 RPM's.

Figured out why there used to be gas stations every 50 miles. :k

I'd had an '86 T-Type years before and remembered how it used to run, so I just copied the drive train to see if I could get the same results.

Nice lookin monte.  Canada gas is higher?.. what is it per liter

Posted

Can is 4.55 liters per gallon.

U.S. is only 3.8 liters per gallon.

Right now it's about $1.33 per liter, which with the exchange is about a dollar per liter U.S.
