GRAY 70 Monte Carlo Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Disassembled rear bumper seen on outter brackets that they have slots or grooves that appear they should have some type of rubber bumper in them. I did find two rubber bumpers in a box These are very similar to to ones at the back of the hood but probably a little thicker. Does anyone know if these are correct or not and if not any ideas what goes there if anything. I also seen that there is a identical slot/ groove on the center bumper bracket too. Does it take the same rubber bumper or a different bumper I believe it to be different. I look through all the threads I could find but couldn’t find any pictures or information. Thanks in advance for any information and help 1 Quote
Rob Peters Posted June 26 Posted June 26 That isn't anything I have seen. When I had my bumper off I do not remember those slots in my brackets but my Monte is a late 1970 build. rob 3 Quote
1Bad_Monte Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Just replaced the bumper on my 72. I have very similar rubbers that I got with a full body kit. Odd though, I checked the assembly manual and it doesn’t show them nor the vertical slit in the bracket. One note on reinstalling, there is a lot of adjustment so take your time when aligning the bumper brackets to get the spacing looking good. Grabbed my dad to check the spacing while I laid under the car and fine tuned the bracket alignment. Also, a towel or rag in between the bumper and the side body will help avoid accidentally scratch the paint while installing. Hope that helped some. And sorry for the dark pic but it was bugging me that I can’t find it for sale and the manual doesn’t show it when I know I bought it and it’s installed. -Jr. 3 1 Quote
Dtret Posted June 29 Posted June 29 An early 70 had the flat style brackets. All the rest have the round type ( so it won’t apply to the round) I haven’t been able to look in the 70 books yet but I will. 3 1 Quote
GRAY 70 Monte Carlo Posted June 29 Author Posted June 29 I wasn’t able to find the rear bumper in the 70 assembly manual should have been in section 14 2 Quote

Dtret Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I looked through the 70 manual, nothing ( as stated above) so I went through the actual gm parts illustration catalog and I found the rear bumper and all the brackets but the edge ones were not shown 2 1 Quote

On 1Bad_Montes post I could see the part number on the center bumper bracket bracket rubber bumper part number 3895100 . I was able to find 3 of them got them ordered but in his picture looks like the spacer/ bumper is between the bracket and the bumper . Do you know if that is correct or is it between bracket and the body? Seems like it should be between bumper and bracket. 2 Quote

Scott S. Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Have to wait and see if any other early Flint cars have it..... Mine theoretically came from Baltimore, but I have very little history, so if they'd been there, who knows if they were there to start with. (Third week Jan/70) 2 Quote
Dtret Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Don’t forget Flint was on strike during the year flip. My SS was started in 69 at Fisher Body but has a production date of 4/70. 2 Quote

I didn’t realize that till last night .i seen here on the forum under cowl label decode and it said I believe could be possibly 8 weeks or more beyond that date. The production date decal in the door jam has been gone for years so really don’t have an exact date 3 Quote

It looks like the cowl tag is actually 08C August of 1969 . So I went on a Chevelle site and by looking at the vin number 138570F110618 http://chevelleworld.macswebs.com/70/70prod_by_plant.htm This is a Flint built car .I believe this has a production date in September of 1969 . Is this correct anybody know thanks in advance 1 Quote
Dtret Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Eighth month, third week. 618… is concerning, thats a very high number for an early production car. 1 Quote

Maybe it sat on the production line at Flint during the entire strike ??? There's probably a few cars that were left "is limbo" when they closed the doors. 1 Quote
Leghome Posted July 4 Posted July 4 When I ordered my 70 on September 20th it must not have made to the production floor because 10 weeks later it was delivered from Van Nuys 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I wish Montelishi still had the door decal..... Tag cowl says third week in Jan '70, but the history report says she was sold in Oct '70. Kind of curious about what happened in between. 1 Quote

Something is wrong there, October 70 would be a 71 model 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Nope, the cowl tag and vin are Jan '70. The dealership bill of sale is Oct. Maybe she sad unloved on the lot for awhile ?? 1 Quote
