420ponies Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Yeah I know, never had one on our Monte's. Had to since installing the 427BBC. Running through town, up to a buddies place( 25 miles), never got over 180 degrees, stopped at his place on the lake, later coming back to the car, coolant on the ground. Was my 13 lb.cap bad? . Drove back home, and did the same thing in my driveway. Wasn't happy. So, bought a 16 lb cap. Little leakage after 25 mile shakedown run. Bought a'75-'79 Nova recovery tank from 396 GroundUp. Boy, easy peasy install. Behind the battery ( all you see is the cap). It's go time for the Syracuse Nat's next weekend!! 8 Quote
Dtret Posted July 12 Posted July 12 A few of us have installed them. Joe advised me, yep I used the hotline, back in 2020 when I did my 71. I’ll do it on my 70 if I ever get to the point of needing fluids. 5 Quote
Marks71 Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Put the same one on mine about a year ago for the same reason. What I noticed though, was it would puke an ounce or two only when the radiator was topped off. After that it was done and would not do it again. It’s funny because my 69 Camaro with its DZ302 doesn’t have a recovery bottle and has never puked a drop. 2 Quote
rsorg Posted July 12 Posted July 12 hi, should the coolant level be 1 1/2 inches below the overflow tube cold ? Quote

Climate can have a factor on that too.... The hotter the engine runs, the more room you'd want for expansion. And pressure cap relief psi. The lower, the more likely you are to have spillage. 2 Quote

Works fine. 2 Quote
cbolt Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I mounted my coolant tank under my show panel attached to the hood latch brace. No pics available and I installed a black one so you really cannot see it at all. That was the point, to make it functional yet invisible. 3 Quote
