Hello, I have acouple of problems with my cars tilt steering column. First thing is, the turn signals worked when i bought the car 3 years ago. I took car to body shop last year, to get rocker fixed. After that, my turn signals are not working. I put my foot on the brakes and both turn signal indicators light up. The hazard lights are not working, Flasher can was missing from fuse panel. I bought new flasher and didn't fix the problem. I plan on pulling the wheel and replacing the turn signal switch. I noticed when I move the turn signal lever, the column collar moves a inch up and down. Is that something that can be easily fixed? or do i have to have the column rebuilt? Also when i have my door open and courtesy lights under dash are on, when i go to crank the car, the light under dash lights flicker like strobe lights. Last thing is my battery goes dead, so something is not grounded correctly? Any input would be of great help. thanks

Poor ground is a good thing to look for first. Do you have a test light? (good to have one)

Has anyone replaced any bulbs with LED and not stock incandescent?

Any wires shorted out or crushed?

Has this vehicle ever had a trailer hitch? If it had one and it was not removed completely and properly, this would be a good thing to inspect.

I added a tilt wheel to my 71 many years ago and I love it!!!

I did have upper bearing problems causing the steering wheel to wobble. Here is a link to some pics of the repair I did.

When I was a mechanic in a FORD dealership in the early - mid 1970's I remember some of the wires from the T/S switch on TILT steering columns would break after years of moving the steering wheel up and down. (this also was a problem with wires in the harness for power windows from the door, opening and closing, bending the wires thousands of times)

Good luck!
