Has anyone here ever repaired the cracks in the top of their dash pad?

If so, did you use padded dash filler or bondo?

I need a black stereo dash pad since I switched from Green to Black interior, and my factory dash pad has two straight line cracks in the top due to it sitting on cinder blocks for 17 years in the previous owner's yard.

I would look for the nicest one I could find, not worrying about the color. SEM makes a vinyl die/top coat that when prepped properly would work fine. Since the dash is virtually a zero wear item it’s one of the few interior areas I would be comfortable with going that route. When I replaced the dash pad on my 84 GMC truck with a new factory GM pad, it came gray so I had to get the correct blue to keep the factory color. Armed with the interior color code, I got what I needed at an auto paint supplier. Because you need black, you wouldn’t need to go through that. That was in 1993, I still have the truck and the dash is still perfect. There is a popular dash restoration business out here in California called Just Dashes that could restore your existing dash in black, but with shipping it may get a little pricey.

I took a run at it a couple years ago. Used a poly resin to fill in the speaker holes as well as the cracks. The coated it in black spray on undercoating.

The holes turned out fine, but the crack was to big to take. After one season it split again.

I've been thinking about taking another shot at it, but not sure if it's worth it. :(

A year after dash repair....

All the other dry cracks filled in nicely, but the big one came back to haunt me.  :(

I know they are $$ ,but Leo Konink has a great dash pad he sells. I installed it in mine and like it a lot. When I was doing my dash cluster upgrade(factory gauge package, even though it's of a '70), I was walking past the dash pad (no cracks, nice shape and original),my shoulder bumped it and off to the floor it went. picked it up ,stress cracks every where on it. Then and there, decided to replace it. Yes , it's the twin speaker style too.

The sun dries the heck out of them....

Mine started to show cracks all over it when I pulled it out. :(

My Monte sat on cinder blocks in the previous owner's yard for 12-15 years after they ran it in a ditch and thought the frame was tweaked (it isn't), so the weather had a lot of time to screw up the factory interior in my car.
