jbird72 Posted July 26 Posted July 26 So despite the dyno numbers on my built 355 pretty happy 449 hp...turned out as stated before had bent crank. So still gonna keep sbc because of money invested rather go bbc yet...doin 383 ..all new bottom end. All forged. Bit whats crazy besides bent crank is found 2 broken valve springs...so after bathing block and porting heads should pull bout 50 hp more and more torgue id think. What are your thoughts ...only 8 bolts lol 3 Quote

Scott S. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 383 is a popular rebuild.... And they seem to hold up. More cubes, less weight. How can you go wrong ?? 2 Quote

Everything's ordered. Everything's getting put back together, honing the cylinders and found this. This has been running like this for years, though, with this little imperfection and nothing was wrong on the old pistons and rings. But uh I hate to put all this money into it and have this Be a problem. It's a little Nick in the side of the cylinder wall. Here's the picture. 3 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Can you put a hold on your order and maybe bore it out ??? 3 Quote
jbird72 Posted July 26 Author Posted July 26 I have the parts already. I shouldn't have said ordered and uh, I mocked up the crank everything grinded the block. So the crank would fit everything's all figured out, but notice this, it's already bored. .40 over 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Cursed block ???? It actually looks like it's far enough down that the rings never reach it..... And if it's not making any marks on the rings, I'd think you're safe. Seeing as you already have the parts, I'd assemble it and check/measure to be sure. If it's clear, it's no harm, no foul. 1 Quote
jbird72 Posted July 26 Author Posted July 26 Yeah, I actually think that happened from the factory, something that's crazy. The Dyno guy my that builds motors, he couldn't believe it either he said prolly happened day 1 He's never seen anything like that, but he said, hey, it ran there was no marks on cylinder or bad rings so yeah, yeah, I know.Let's keep going..cursed block lol. This whole thing again started with a carb and timing change 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 26 Posted July 26 A "Monday/Friday" motor..... Yeah, but look at all the fun/experience you're getting. 1 Quote

420ponies Posted July 27 Posted July 27 The gasket will take care of that imperfection. Just use a good Felpro style ( blue) gasket. No Steel,or copper gasket. Aluminium heads ,right? Quote
Scott S. Posted July 27 Posted July 27 And once you get past the transmission, there's the differential. 3 Quote

Scott S. Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Just a thought..... If you're running those type of RPM's, you might want to consider a wingage tray while you've got the pan off. 2 Quote
