FrankOC Posted July 28 Posted July 28 The rally wheels are my car have are not hub centric and I'm getting some vibration. I can see that the wheel is not centered and I can see in the rotation that the wheel is off center. Has anyone used a hub centric ring? Quote
keith72monte Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I think your suppose to tighten lugs with car off the ground with after market rims that are lug centric, so they self center. I Haven't used spacer rings with aftermarket wheels. I haven't had problems with vibrations. I have had problems with installers doing sloppy balancing. Wheel weights can come off if not properly mounted. Wheel vintiques and US steel wheels have been good. I would have the front rebalanced. Forget stick on weights. I have had them fly off, because they didn't clean off my wheel good enough, or their we're cheap stick on's. I have asked to have the new and old oem wheels checked for balance and straightness on the balancer before tires are installed, offering to throw installer a extra 20 bucks. Don't go to walmart or pep boys. I had good luck at tires plus and local garages. I like to use OEM wheels for the front. Maybe someone om here might have more info for you on the hub rings and sizes needed. 8 Quote
FrankOC Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 I put a dial indicator on the wheel to check radial run out. It’s out by .07”. Quote
420ponies Posted July 30 Posted July 30 That to me is a little much. .025"-.030 max. Did you center the rim with one at 7 o clock ( bottom) , other at 2 o clock (top) ? That's how I do my Vintage wheels every time. Never a problem. Where is this coming in and better, do you drive out of it? And also I keep a good eye on lug nuts and replace after about 10 times on / off. Found some faulty ones. I now buy NHRA approved only lug nuts. Summit has those. Quote
FrankOC Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 I'm overthinking this. Dropping the wheels/tires off in the morning for high speed balancing. 3 Quote
keith72monte Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Hey Frank ,let us know how it went and if it fixed the problem. Acouple more things to check out. If you get up to 50 mph and let off the pedal and vibration happens, might be idler arm. 35 dollar part and easy to change. Other thought would be makes sure all bolts are tightened down correctly on the front suspension and brakes. Spindle nut for the wheel bearings set correctly. I've have had every kind of bad vibration a guy could encounter lol just nuts and bolts. you will get it fixed 1 Quote
