Yesterday I started getting alerts for the site being 'Offline', then back 'Online'.

I called GoDaddy this morning and they mentioned a minor malware issue, that they have since corrected (at least that's what they said).

One of their recommendations is to 'Change your Passwords', and maybe run a virus scan on your computers.

So, if you get a chance, please at least change your site passwords.

Thank you,

Joe T

Yes, please, everyone on here should at least change their login password to maintain the security and integrity of the FGMCC website and forums.

If you've had any personal computer issues or weirdness going on with it, then please download and install the free version of Malwarebytes and run a scan of your system to ensure that your computer is not infected with any malware.

Or if you already have an antivirus program, please update it and run a scan of your computer to ensure that's it free of any malware.

Make sure that your computer has all of its Operating System updates and patches applied as well. That will help maintain the security of your Operating System.

If someone's computer did infect this site and forums, chances are it will happen again if the above steps are not done, and we don't want the site and forums to go down again.

Thank you!

Can you force regular password changes and/or enable MFA?

I think I can force a password reset globally... As far as MFA, that tends to be annoying, though more secure.

Yes, it can be forced globally for the forums. I already reset mine after I saw your initial post about it.

The MFA is more secure, and although adds another step or two to login, it would make it much harder if not impossible for any malicious intruders to take over any user accounts, especially those stale accounts that haven't logged into the forums for a long time.

There are many programs (free) that you can get to scan your system for malware, trojans, etc. Also many with a fee. That being said, when ATT, Comcast, and other big name companies get hacked, it's NOT your passwords but your personal information they are after.

We got the final report from GoDaddy, they cleaned up the issue. They did recommend password changes, (plus a few other items) so I'll be pushing a global command to reset passwords. Sorry if it's an inconvenience, but it's better to be safe than sorry. After people change their password, you should be able to set it to remember the new one easy enough.

Yes i knew i would have a problem resetting last night, so i did it this morning.

I totally understand why we should but being so illiterate on this comp, i do dread it. I kept trying and it locked me out a few times but i was determined to NOT ask Joe for help as he is busy enough!  So eventually i got it!!!

Love this Club and the people, So good looking out Joe!!!

Thanks Joe, for All you do for us!!!! (This also goes for All the Officers of this club!!)

I did perform a global password command earlier, so hopefully that will help protect the site.

Willie, I agree with you. I don't like changing passwords either, and it locked me out once too, lol.

The main issue with announcing this on the club website is most members are not on here every day and sometimes every week or more so they didn't get that message.

It may be a bit of work to come up with a global email list and to maintain it through the years but it may be an idea we could look into and between a few of the officers and admin's working together and each taking a group from our members list to compile it, it could be accomplished.  Then maintaining it would just be a little additional work.

Unfortunately, even if we could compile an email list from those registered on the club website, it would not hit our entire membership base since we have a number of dues paying members not on the club website, but in a case like this it would hit everyone registered on the site.  I don't know if there would be a way to send out a global PM message for all people registered on the club website but if there was it would be a way to reach everyone registered on the website.  Since everyone registered on the club website can receive PM messages (unless their mailbox is full due to not being cleaned our) and would get an email notification of the PM on the site with the content of the PM in the email they would know about the Password change.

I just put out a bulk email, prior to your message Rob, because one member messaged me he was locked out, and there were no email instructions on what to do. I basically cut/pasted the active member list emails, and mass mailed it out.

If someone has gotten the email and you're able to see the site, you should be good.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience, but the longer we wait for people to get on the site to see the original posting, the greater the chance something could slide back into the site to cause problems.

I agree Joe why wait, I think we all understand why we have to do it!  Just do it the best we can and everyone has to redo there password knowing we are now clean and safe!!

I didnt get the email this morning like some did, figured I was exempt 🤣 Got it tonight , ignored it and wasn't able to log in, so I clicked on the link, changed my password and all is good.

In todays world, we all need to be a little more educated on security, the amount of scams are mind boggling ,

Thought I had it changed yesterday but got locked out. Then I found the change password email in my junk folder this morning. It was too easy. If the world was dependent on my computer knowledge, we’d all be goners.

As part of the admin team I realize that the password changes are a pain to all of our members. But remember that this is necessary for site security and personal security. But on a positive note I am seeing a lot of members on the site that have not been on in a while and we welcome you back. I want to thank all of our members for their patience and may we continue to build and enjoy the greatest first generation Monte Carlo site on the internet. It’s all you people that make us the best.

Thank you all.
Dennis.

As Dennis mentioned, if nothing else, the password reset has brought a lot of members back to the site for a visit. It has also resulted in a few members that had lapsed their membership dues, join back up again as full-dues paying members. Thank you for that, and welcome back to our Club!

In an effort to make it easier, if so desired, the pay link below will take you directly to the credit card system we have in place, if someone wants to join back up. The dues are still $25, just enter the amount and press the button. If anyone wants alternate payment methods, the links further down will explain the process.

Thank you again, and sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
