patman Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Hey guys, is there anyone repopping the drivers door sport mirror that was on the ‘72 custom? I looked but didn’t see anything. I did find that most places show the 68-72 chevelle sport mirrors to fit 70-72 Monte Carlo’s but I’m pretty sure they don’t sit right. Seems like somewhere in the past I’ve seen someone using them and they tipped inward. OR…it’s all in my head…I’m getting old…🤣 1 Quote
jft69z Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Hey Pat, Yes, the mirrors are available at SS396.com. I have a set of them here (left & right side), waiting to put on another member's car later this year. They appear to be pretty good quality, but they will need some attention from your body man, as they aren't exactly perfect castings. Individual sale: https://www.ss396.com/monte-carlo/MIR-7SL.html https://www.ss396.com/monte-carlo/MIR-7SR.html As a set: https://www.ss396.com/monte-carlo/MA-70SPORT-KIT.html 4 Quote
patman Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 I saw them. Do they look like they’ll be straight when installed or set in place? Any chance you could post a picture of them? 1 Quote

willie Posted August 8 Posted August 8 If i am not mistaken and maybe Joe can jump back in later, they sell a gasket that is higher on one side to solve that problem Pat. not sure if its SS396 or Parts Place. But i think the mirror still has to be tweaked when installing them!! 5 Quote
Scott S. Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Yes, the door tops on a Monte are flatter than the Chevelle's. But like Willie mentioned, there are gaskets made to correct that. curve. 4 Quote

But i think the mirror still has to be tweaked when installing them!! You can't get the gasket, a few of us tried to contact 'Bulletmirrors.com', with no response. The ones they supplied with their mirrors appeared to be a 3D printed piece, with a steeper angle to it. The mirrors from SS396 look to be dimensionally the same as the factory ones, though like I mentioned earlier, they'll need some massaging to get the lines smooth. The escutcheon plate for the mirror adjustment is smooth vs the factory one too. 7 Quote
MC-71 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Does anyone have a 3D printer. I have the correct sport mirror gaskets. I will post the part number tomorrow. I’m willing to lend the gasket for the return of mine and 2 new printer ones. 6 Quote
willie Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Hey Carl I dont have one but that would be great!! I have a few, even a set of Olds gaskets and would love to see the part number!! Hopefully someone will have a 3D printer!!! 3 Quote
Dtret Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Is the passenger side correct with the wording? I don’t remember that being on there. I believe that was started in the later years. Please advise. Thanks 2 Quote

MC-71 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 No the writing on the passenger was not there. Glass back then was flat. I knew but forgot. Maybe 1973. Not a bad option to have now. I had a concave glass cut to fit on my Sport Mirror with the writing on it. 4 1 Quote

Dtret Posted August 9 Posted August 9 That would be awesome to have that for the drivers side. How about a possible reverse engineered one for the passenger side?? Thanks 2 Quote
Rob Peters Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I saw this far side cartoon years ago and felt it was only fitting I post it in this string. 2 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted August 9 Posted August 9 3D printers can be a great source for discontinued parts.... It's the operators that can be a pain in the A** !! My neighbour has a printer, and about 3 months ago I asked if he could reproduce the washer tank stick for the CD-2. (He'd been showing me his work for a while by then) I took the pieces of the old one and made a blueprint for him. Still hasn't printed one, but pops by every now and then with "upgrades" to what I'm looking for. (Yeah... No.... I don't need my name ingraved into the part.....) His recent idea is now mass production of the part, but I keep telling him there's no real market for it. Just can't seem to get that through to him. And I'm still waiting....... 3 Quote

If someone wants to loan one I’ll talk to him and see if he’ll give it a try. 1 Quote
Dtret Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Here’s the issue. You have to know what mirrors you’re starting with. If it’s original Monte then you need that angle of wedge, if you’re using chevelle you need to know that wedge. Mirrors can be used from different cars too. Camaro etc. all different mounting and wedges. 3 1 Quote

From there I’ve ground the base to make the mirror sit level. So I’d expect that there would be some tweaking required no matter what. But since SS396 is selling them the idea of making one is mute. 2 Quote
patman Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 Ok, I’ve got one on order with SS396. They had it in stock and they said it should ship today. Updates to follow! 5 Quote
Santiago Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Any updates? I'm also looking for the brackets, I have my original ones for the stock driver's side and a modified after market one for the passenger side, but they are cracked and worn out Quote
