JSenseney Posted August 23 Posted August 23 Greetings all knowing MC people from still learning MC person. When I bought my MC, it came with a non working after market sound system installed in the 90s. Wanted to figure out sub(s) status in big box pushed/bolted up against rear seat wall. Through YouTube I found the trick to uninstall the seat bottom using a small prybar to help. That was easy. Determined 2x 10” Rockford Fosgate subwoofers in push pull configuration. Oooh. Began reassemble. Down to how to get seat bottom relatched. Not as easy as prybar assist getting it out, and no internet searches have help. I’ve tried sitting on sill and pushing with foot… I’ve tried any number of tools… and I lack physical strength to push into place. Do y’all have any interesting ways of getting that seat bottom to relatch? Thank you again, oh wise MC ones. Quote

You can just set it in and push it down and leave it not latched it’s not going anywhere. I’ve done it forever. If you’re using the back seat then it should be locked down. 2 1 Quote
JSenseney Posted August 23 Author Posted August 23 Thank you, Dennis. So far that’s how I have it. I will try the sit (have someone sit) while I push back method also. Quote

420ponies Posted August 23 Posted August 23 If you set the seat inside the car, and look under it from outside the car, you will see how it attaches. Generally, I put the bucket seats forward, get inside the car so I'm facing the back seat, place my hands on the front bottom of the seat (frame of seat),one on each side of the transmission hump, push down on seat(little pressure),and back at the same time. You will feel it lock in place. If you pull it straight out after this , it should stay in place. If it comes forward, try again. I try to get the rear of the seat in,as far as I can first , that way just a little effort is needed to get it to lock in. Hope this helps. 4 Quote
Leghome Posted August 23 Posted August 23 My legs are/were long enough that I put the drivers seat all the way forward wrong a microfiber around my shoe sit on the door jam with my back against the door by the hinges my foot on the front of the rear cushion and push. This has worked for me for years my not now as old age is catching up to and I don’t have the strength I once did 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted August 24 Posted August 24 I just put my knees into it once the front hooks are caught...... But I'll admit it's easier with the driver's seat out. 2 1 Quote
willie Posted August 24 Posted August 24 In my opinion there is no trick, you put the seat in place as far back as you can and give it a wack with the palm of your hand as you are pushing down with other hand. Yes sometimes wacking the top of the seat doesn't push her in far enough so you have to wack the part close to the floor. 2 1 Quote
Rob Peters Posted August 25 Posted August 25 I have usually done it like Willie. Yes, you can bruise the meaty part of the palm of your hand but it will go. If you haven't gotten it done yet, lift the seat up a little and look at how it the seat will hook into the flooring latch. It helps to understand how it has to be done. You will see putting weight on the top of the cushion is not going to help, it is the front bottom metal spring bracing that has to get hooked in. Also, with the seat bottom resting on the latching bracket you can see how far back it is going to go so it can latch. Easy-Peasy.... no but once you get the hang of it it isn't to bad. rob 2 1 Quote
Glen Posted August 28 Posted August 28 1). Put front seats all the way forward 2). Straddle the driveshaft hump on your knees and lean into the seat with your thighs 3). Use both hands simultaneously to push the seat down and in near the corners as you’re using your thighs to drive the seat in 1 1 Quote

Especially for us "older" people. 1 1 Quote
