Are you replacing the Rochester ? Any mods on the drivetrain ?

If your engine is stock, the original Quadrajet will give you the best fuel ecnomy and good performance. Switching to a Holley will likely cause you to use more fuel.  If your carb is giving you trouble, have it rebuilt by someone like Lars Grimstad, who can be found on the internet.

No I do not have the original carb , edelbrock 1901 , close to the QJET. Been on about 25years , motor is pretty much stock , mild cam that is currently it.

I would stay with the Quadrajet. I had mine rebuilt and have no problems, very easy to adjust.

As the saying goes....

Holley for high end performance/ RPM's. (They do like their gas.)

Edelbrock for mild/street performance. Easy to work on.

Quadrajet for stock looks and performance. And easy on gas until you open the quads..... :k

The intake manifold is designed for the Quadrajet spread bore carb. A Holley would require a different intake manifold.

Again just my .02.........Ive never heard from anybody that's done the spread bore to square bore adapter on my specific situation with positive comments. You'll get Holley fans, Edlebrock fans both with positive comments. I'm on the Holley side. Try to mimic the Holley spec's to the original quadrate spec plus some for the cam

On a side note, not sure if you did this with the edlebrock.....When I went from the original 454 to the crate with a Holley I had to get an adapter for the throttle cable. No biggie just fyi
