MC-71 Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I would make another call. That hard to believe. I bought mine years ago for my 71. There’s are correct for a Monte. Chevelle will work but needs to be stretched at the roof quarters. Remember that at the rear above the trunk the seams need to be adjusted to line up with the trunk opening. Just order a extra piece of vinyl and have your installer make the correction. Chevelle’s are wrong. Call Legendary again and ask again. Maybe a different sales person. 3 Quote
Rob Peters Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I may not be understanding your post. Just a note, First Gen Monte's have Halo and FULL Halo trim design's. Full halo would be on the majority of the 70 Monte's. The Full Halo would be the one that the trim for the vinyl room is a complete loop with the the front vinyl trim curving and continuing across the front, just short of the windshield trim and leaving about 1 inch of body color showing all the way around the outside of the trim. Some 70's and all of the 72/72's with vinyl roof's had the Halo where the vinyl trim left about 1 inch space of body color between the vinyl trim the upper drip rail trim also behind the 1/4 window and the vinyl trim ended at the windshield trim. I am wondering if what they mean is they say "only offer halo top vinyls" is that they only offer the 71/72 style. If that is the case their vinyl would work on the 70 also with trimming the front edge for the Full Vinyl trim. rob 4 Quote
Rob Peters Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Just one addition to my original statement. When I said MOST 70's had the FULL Halo is a true statement. Some assembly lines, part way through the production year, were running out of the Full Halo trim and started using the 71/72 Halo trim that ran all the way to the windshield. The majority of the people here are aware of this but some newer members may not know. Also, you will see on Facebook Monte groups and sometime here on this site that the Full Halo was an early 70 only thing but we do know that is not true. My car was born in the Baltimore plant in the third week of June in 1970 and it has the Full Halo. Being born in the third week of June means it was just days from the shutdown of the assembly line for 70 Monte's and start of production of the 71 Monte's. One other misconception you will see on Facebook Monte groups is people saying the chrome strip on the bottom of 1970 Monte front fender extensions (below the headlights) was an early 70 only item. Again, this is not true because my Monte also was born with these trim pieces. rob 1 Quote

Again, this is not true because my Monte also was born with these trim pieces. rob Rob is correct on both counts. The reason people say they are “ early “ is because GM discontinued them early. But the parts that were already made were to be used. In late 69 the GM strike at Flint threw this all off, so the parts were distributed to all the remaining plants and kept them being put on cars later than planned. My 70 SS Flint car started being built in late 69 ( proof is the paint numbers on the cowl) but ended up with an April build date and yes it has both. 3 Quote
