Chris shipley Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Favorite memory of your monte carlo. I would have to say mine would be when I purchased it Crusing down the pennsylvania turnpike . And the wife waiting for me to pull in the drive with camera. 7 Quote
Robnhood Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I can't tell you how long I have had my Monte Carlo, but it has to be close to 20 years, and I as hard as I have tried, I can't come up with a single memory. All of the memory come back to me in a montage of sorts. One of my first memories is shortly after getting the car with my father driving it. I remember him stopping it, and leaving a long patch of rubber. After that, I remember spending countless hours with my friend Tommy stripping seven layers of paint and printer to get down to bare steel before painting it again. I remember working on the front of the engine fixing belts and pulleys that left a lot to be desired. From there my memory drifts into when I was working on the interior, and reupholstering seats with my other friend Tommy. There were so many car shows after that I went to with Tommy. I remember taking my then girlfriend, soon fiancee, and later on my wife for her first ride, where she slide off the seat, when I got into it. I later took her with my older friend Dick. After I showed him what it would do he said he almost crapped his pants. There are so many times I would sit in the garage with my Monte when so many other things were going on that I just couldn't take it out. (No regrets, just the way life is sometimes.) I just recently got done installing a new QA1 suspension with my friend Steve, and that wa a great time. I took it for a ride, and it felt so good to be out in it again. I also can't begin to tell you how much I love the new suspension. I could go on and on, but my monte has been a part of my life for so long, I just can't give you just one memory. Some of the things that I have also been thinking about. Driving it after it has been fuel injected, and how does it feel. Looking out the front window, and seeing the Dakota Digital Dash. Feeling the stopping power of the new wilwood brakes. Listening to the new stereo with Bluetooth. I may get some of it done, I may not. There is a part of me that doesn't care how much more I get done; there is a part of me that want to do everything I just mentioned, and as time has gone by, my focus is shifting towards the memories that I have yet to make in my monte. 9 Quote
Leghome Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Just driving it when ever I get the chance and with winter coming the chances will be fewer for sure. It is so much more fun to drive than these new fangled cars. Although I do have several new fangled gadets (Holly Sniper, Dakota Dightal, 700r4 and roller can and lifters) on Ole Red but he is a real joy to motor around in 5 Quote

It won't be long for some of us to put away. Soon. I can remember my first car show . You feel proud driving up into the show. And your part of it. 5 Quote
Rob Peters Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I have many memories from my current 70 Monte, and my original 70 Monte I purchased new from a Chevrolet dealer in Jacksonville, FL but one of my most memorable 70 Monte memories is this: When I purchased my original Monte Carlo, I had a date that Saturday night and wanted to pick up my date in my New Monte. I was bummed out when the dealer said it had to go through the dealer prep. The salesman said "it is the end of the day, just take the Demo that you did your test drive in". So I picked up my date in that Demo 70 Monte Carlo and on our way to a dinner and movie I stopped for a light and we heard the screeching of tires trying to come to a stop and then we heard the sickening crunch of metal on metal and then the Monte jump forward after a big Cadillac slammed into the rear of the dealers demo 70 Monte. rob 5 Quote

stangeba Posted September 8 Posted September 8 My favorite memory is the week I picked up my new 71 Monte Carlo, from the Chevy dealership and drove it home. About 2 weeks later I graduated from High School, class of 71. I am so happy I still have it! 7 Quote

I started delivering the Detroit News, helping my brother, when I was about 8 years old. He sold it to me in 1964 and I delivered papers, cut neighbors lawn and washed windows till 1972. The Detroit news did gift me (and some other paperboys) a trip to Washington DC in 1967 and a trip to London England in 1972. Good times! 3 Quote

714024SPEED Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Have had so many good memories with our Monte's though the years with some great people. The first one was doing a frame change on our mom's 70 ,Tom took the car out without permission and crashed it he was 16 I was only 10. Our friend Rob convinced my Mom we could do it in a weekend and no mess..... Ohhh was Mom not happy. The other that comes to mind is when we finally got to go to Carlisle for the FGMCC meet and finally got to meet everyone. Tom had such a great time as all of us did but unfortunately that was the last time Tom would drive his Monte almost a year to that date Tom passed away, but I will away have the memories of the great time we had !!! 6 Quote
