MonteCarLois Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I got the 12-bolt out of my donor car and I'm cleaning it up. Scraping off the grease, brushing off the rust and I'll be damned if I can find the stamping in the axle tube. The rust isn't that bad. Where should it be? I know this is the original axle from the '71 but I'm not finding the code stamped on the back of the axle tubes, where it usually is. Quote
Mike 57 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Should be on the front of the passenger side tube Quote
MonteCarLois Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 Oh, the FRONT side... Hold on, let me check... Quote
Sam (Bones) Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 here's what the stamping looks like http://www.firstgenmc.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=288&ppuser=1341 Quote
MonteCarLois Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 I found it: KDC 130 1 Thanks! So... it's a 2.73 made in Buffalo, in April, great. Now how do I know if it's a 31 or 33 or whatever spline axle? Quote
72-CLASSIC_RIDE Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Try this site by pasting into your browser. http://www.jdrace.com/ Doesn't spell out if a 28 or 30 spline but lots of info on the 12 Bolts. Look to left of page column and select Differential ID. Doug Quote
alex's72fgmc Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 30 spline is the norm for 12 bolt montes unless the diff has been changed out to something else etc. Quote
