Guest SSwolf Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I know everyone asks if there is one being made, and the anwser is always no. But I know there is one company making them. I actually saw one on a '70 model. The mechanic who ordered it said he gets them through the one and only company that makes them. He wouldn't tell me the company name. I guess he wants to make a sweet profit off of them. I didn't own my monte at the time, I was only thinking of buying one, so I didn't find out any more information. Maybe one of you guys, such as Leo can find out more since you can say you are in another state and have your own shop. His name is Dexter and he is one of the owners of 'performance muffler' in Macon, GA. Quote
CrazyDavey Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Lou I would think there would be a fairly large investment to repo a steel cowl hood for a gen 1 Monte. If someone did it I don't think they would keep it a secret if they wanted to recop the investment.... Quote
Sam (Bones) Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 there is a "weld-on" steel cowl available Quote
CrazyDavey Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 there is a "weld-on" steel cowl available seen those Sam but not a complete hood....tons of labor to build one.... Quote
72MC Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 there is a "weld-on" steel cowl available And the best way to adhere it to the hood is not to weld it but to use an aircraft epoxy produced by 3M. Good enough for planes it should be good enough for vehicles. - Dave Quote

I'd be willing to bet everything I own there is no such hood to be found...but it would be nice if they did make them... Quote
Shadow Gray SS Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 This guy probably uses the metal cowl to make them and charges an arm & leg for the work. Why else be so secretive...? Quote
allchevy Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Metal cowl induction hoods are not being made in mass quantity for the first gen Monte's. I had mine made from a chevelle hood and welded to the monte nose hood. Not cheep. But worth it to me. Not sure what he's talking about. Quote
Monteman1971 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I had to make mine too.....it was a lot of work. But I agree if he was making them in mass...he'd actually be selling them too make his money....why make them if your not going to sell them? We would know...this is the first place I would advertise. My 2 cents, Steve Quote
