i have a 71 monte with a 350 in it. i want to replace it with a 454. do i have to get different motor mounts? and if so do i have to drill holes and weld?

Very correct on this one. I did the small block to BBC swap and used my motor mounts along with my turbo 350.

I switched from 350 to BBC and the mounts on the 350 would not work on the BBC. Is there difference on the 502 crate motor????

there are different mounts from small block to big block, I believe the frame stands are the same

I always thought the motor mounts were the same on our cars for the small and big block.

I just did a search for them and the exact part numbers came up for the small and the big block.

there is a difference, I don't remember what, when I first got my '71 I replaced the mounts and had a hard time getting the correct ones

The mounts that go on the frame are all the same in these cars. I've done a few SBC to BBC swaps in Chevelles and the motors drop right in. I have seen different motor cups attached to the blocks so that could be the difference you're seeing.

When we did Jack's swap last year we went with poly mounts, dropped right in. Don't understand, maybe it is the configuration of some of the factory mount that goes on the block.

I never had any problems with using my small block motor mounts with the big block chevy. they fit with no problems and the 454 dropped right in.
