looter Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 what did youdo to it and how does it hold up. Should I just throw for a built 12 and be done? and I mean something that has traction, I know you could run 1000hp through it with the skinny factory rubber. Not looking to launch it drag race style, so it won't be receiving hard hits like that. Quote
looter Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 spent a few hours researching it. no reason to swap unless it's to a 9" ford. bearing/load surfaces are nearly identical between the 8.5 10 bolt and the 12. With minor upgrades I'd take the properly set up 10 over a 12.....just saved several hundred. Quote
Andy's Auto Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 My 81 Malibu run a best of 9.66 on an 8.5 10 bolt. It is a 28 spline with Strange axles, GM posi, and GM 3.73s. It does have a TA Performance cover on it. Proper susopension setup is the key to making them live. Wheel hop kills them all. Quote
looter Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 looks like for 1K it will be about as bulletproof as it can be...and considering 12 bolts are selling for $500 in this neck of the woods...I suppose I'm halfway there just keeping what I have. -master rebuild kit -strange/moser/williams etc axles -eaton posi -ring pinion -strange billet cap -diff cover Quote

But a rebuild on a stock GM posi is way more cost effective than a new Eaton,. Quote
