Mike Brichta Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 A local guy has the following for sale: GM Chevy TH400 Automatic Short Tail 3spd Transmission I have a 1968 Chevy TH400 Automatic for sale, 3spd. It came out of an Impala with 95000 miles on it, it worked fine no problems. whoever buys it though, might want to consider giving it a rebuild just because of the mileage on the transmission. Its a Short Tail-shaft model. Still has fluid in it... What is this worth as a backup trans for the Monte? Thanks!! Mike Quote
Montemedic Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 They are getting harder to find nowadays. Not many boneyards have them due to all the FWD cars manufactured today. Some of the high performance transmission builders are charging $250-300 for a core due to this. Quote
Sam (Bones) Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I would change the fluid and filter and put it in unless the fluid is really! bad, they're getting harder to find, I'd pay up to $300 for it Quote
Mike Brichta Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Sounds like $150 delivered would be a great deal, right? I better make some more room in the attic ... Thanks!! Mike Quote
Andy's Auto Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I try to keep as many 400s on deck as I can find. Not against paying up to $500 for something I know is useable and I have paid $300 just for short shaft cores. Quote
