I'm ready to redo my seats. Not sure if I should have them done by pros or go for it myself. Any tips on buying/installing seat covers for my '72 Monte would be appreciated.

I took mine to the Pro. I don't have the tools to stretch the material. I had them done for $230. Saved my hands to. laugh

Buy a hog ring pliers and a box of rings, and new seat foam because the old stuff will fall apart on you. Let the new seat covers sit in the sun for a few hours to soften them up. This is a job anyone can do if they take their time. I did mine here is a shot of it.

I did my own without any prior experience and I'm very happy with the results. You can do yours. Just do some searches on the internet and get a little education and then start with the rear seat, if you're doing it too. When you do the buckets, take one apart at a time, in case you need the other for reference.

This thread may help you some.

Look here.

Here is another.

Just Google search "recover bucket seats".

I did mine years ago and it was not that hard. I wish I had replaced the seat foam and a couple springs. But I think I am going to end up with newer Monte seats in it one of these days.

Previous owner did mine. Didn't use new foam and the ribs stick through - looks terrible. Worth the xtra to get new foam, I'd say. karr016.jpg

One more thing to have on hand is a few yards of burlap to go between the frame and foam, it will prevent the springs from damaging the foam. You will see it when the covers and old foam come off.
