Hello everyone! I’m still accumulating parts for my resto mod and started researching for improved interior lighting ideas. Has anyone here added lights to their car and would be kind enough to show them? I’m thinking of adding a brighter /different dome light and something in the sail panels. I have already added rear foot well lights from my new front seats. There are lights on the back shell that shine down.

Brake Booster & Valve Cover clearance
Daryl replied to stickshift's topic in Brakes and Suspension Tech
Ever think about converting to a hydro boost? Install is not that bad. Its a good trade for better brakes, takes up less room and doesn't rely on vacum for operation. You can run as big as a cam as you want. Check this article out. Car Craft Hydro Swap As you can see the booster is just a little bigger than the master cylinder. Here is another members Monte with a hydro boost. -
I looked at mine and I don't see where you would be missing anything. Mine fits up closer than yours does. I think you might be a victim of mass production. Yours may have just been cut with more material taken off, there for a larger gap. I'm sure there will be others with more experience chiming in soon

I used Eastwood high temp ceramic red. It went on great with a brush with no runs.Several thin coats ended up like this. The camera flash makes it lighter than it really is. [img:left]http://[/img] Beter view [img:left]http://[/img]

Of all of you that have chimmed in so far, how many of you are running roller cams?

Show your aftermarket or non-monte bucket seats
Daryl replied to Arvizu9618's topic in Interior Tech
Bill I came close to getting those seats but during my research I read several posts that say they are small and some of the bigger guys felt cramped in them. Since I didn't know of any one with them, I went with the Challenger seats since I had sat in them before. Your seats do look good. Almost like they were always there from the factory. -

bobmc Is that console from the same MC as the seat? -

These seats came out of a 2010 Challenger. A friend’s son has one and I thought they were great seats, very comfortable. I scored the front and rears for 700. They are like new. Leather and heated to boot! -
I'm not a hundred percent sure but dont the Chevelle and the Monte Carlos have the same bolt mount pattern far as the dash goes?

Do to hunting season, time with the family, Christmas, New Years and being busy at work, I didn't get the heads done till last week. First I had to end up buying a new set of EX valves that were stock length. The ones that were recommended to me ended up being too long. They were .100 over stock. With the longer valves there was too much shimming or keeper adjustment to do for my spring set up which had an install height of 1.950 Also the rocker arm geometry was off with the valves at the taller height. In the end with the stock length valves on the EX and .100 longer on the INT everything worked out. The following is what I ended up using; Retainers Del West super 7 titanium Springs Crane electro polished 96883 Intake Valve- .100 over stock length Locator- .040 thick Exhausts Valve-stock length Locator- .060 thick The cam I'm running has a lift of .650 on the Ex and .625 on the Int. Valve and seal clearence is good and there is plenty of room with this cam. [/img]

Got my new locks in 4 days. Locks are good now!

I finished lapping all the valves tonight. No issues and as stated, took a short time to get a nice fit.

With just a trany swap it would not only improve MPG but help with off line performance as well with out changing the rear gears. In other words not alot of work involved. The swap can easily be done in a day. I have swapped several trannies in my Monte but never a 200. I've done one 350 two 400s and a 700.I currently have a 4l80 ready to go in. Since I have never done a 200 I'm not sure of the OAL but I'm guessing that the drive shaft will need to be altered.

In the next couple of photos I'm showing the valve to seat fit. All I did was use some layout die and rotated the valve in the seat few times without any lapping compound. As you can tell from the photos they will need very little work to have them fitted properly. Int Seat Int Valve Exh Seat Exh Valve

I bought locators for the springs. I also figured that I will need a set of shims to get the correct seat pressure. I am going off pressure instead of install hieght for the seat set up.

I double checked and I got them right side up. I then got a hold of Dell West and it looks like they sent me locks for valves with a tip length of .300 and I have .250. Is the .300 length the norm for the performance world and titanium retainers? This is the first HI Po motor I've built so I don't know. They said they will send out a new set right away so it looks like I've gotta wait a few more days again before the 489 comes to life. Note to future self, verify valve tip length! Thanks for the input guys.

What am I missing? I just got all my valve train stuff and it looks like my locks are ridding too high. At this height the rocker will be ridding on the lock and not the valve tip. Is this set made for lash caps? [img:left]http:// [/img]

After doing some more reading, I came across a discussion about "threading" the valve guide to keep the valve seals in place. I looked at my heads and mine already have that done! By the way the valve guides take a .530 seal

Other nice to know stuff; Exh port raised .400 Heads are angled plugs Spark plugs NGK R5671A7 4091 Head gasket Fel Pro 1017 Intake gasket Fel Pro 1275 If there are any specific questions I can answer for any one let me know. I can also take more pics if you want me too. It will be a week or 2 before I have all the stuff gathered up to put the heads together. At that time I'll post on the assembly and how it went.

The words Patriot or freedom is no longer on the head. Promax Performance is the only logo to be found. Spring pocket Need to add .4 for measuring ID with this style of caliper. Total of 1.7535 OD of the valve guide. The valve guides are for 11/32 size valves.

And here we go... This was about the worst looking runner I found. Not bad at all! A few minutes with the grinder will take care of the parting line. Intake Bowl Exh Bowl 119cc Chamber Seat blends look good! Intake port match looking through intake Milled mating surfaces look nice and smooth!

Valves I am going with are severe duty Manley’s. Patriot recommended valve lengths for the heads are +.250 on the Int and +.100 on the Exh over stock. I already have my springs and retainers. Crane electro polished springs and titanium retainers. Harland Sharp rockers on ARP studs. The heads will be sitting on a seasoned, studded 454 .030 over block, 4340 stroker crank and 6.385 forged rods. Pistons are forged Diamond 21.5cc domed. Rings and pistons are set up for nitrous but I don’t plan on it for now. Cam, solid roller .283 .290 dur and .642 .650 lift with PBM pressurized oil lifters. Melling HV oil pump, 8qt pan. Vic Jr. intake and a Carb Shop worked over Holley 850 that flows 920, if I remember correctly. Trans is a reworked 4l80e with a TCI controller. Not sure about the converter or final gears yet.

This is some flow data I got from Eric Weingartner Racing LLC. They were out of the box as cast."Finally flowed some Patriot 320cc bbc heads here is what they flowed" Long Short EX .1 63 57 60 .2 140 127 103 .3 195 190 154 .4 252 250 189 .5 305 309 242 .6 343 326 256 .7 369 326 266 .8 363 343 266 .9 350 341 267 1.0 350 336 268 This is on a 4.310 bore and no exhaust pipe

Sounds good! It will be great to hear how the SBC ones work out. I have a LT1 sitting in the corner itching to go into some thing. I was thinking of trying the patriots on that block too.
