Borgeson makes what you need for a steering shaft set up. I believe the Cherokee shaft squarebody guys use is the wrong spline or shaft size on the column and box.

I have 18 x 9.5 with 5.75" BS and 275 width tires that fit perfect with no modifications front and rear.

1972 MC 350/Auto - Suspension Upgrade
SPLATT71MC replied to B-Man's topic in Brakes and Suspension Tech
For mine I have aftermarket a-arms and sway bar but nothing that allows extra clearance. I was going to go staggered but when I used the wheel fitting jig set for the specs I came up for the rear to get what I wanted I set it up on the front out of curiosity. I found I had enough clearance to where I might get very slight rubbing if any on the sway bar during hard cornering so it's pretty much maxed out unless I get to cutting and welding to make more clearance. On the rear it looks like if I want to in the future I can step up to a 10" wide with 6.25bs and a 295. -

I've been following a couple of his builds on another forum. He's doing a GTO and a LS powered 1st gen Cougar. -
What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

These were the ones that turned out good. I'd get one to turn out really nice but find a glaring mistake so I would have it corrected and the quality would go in the toilet. Then it would take a few tries to get the quality back but I'd end up with a different design altogether. I've had the group going for a couple years now but I'm about the only one that posts anything which is mostly posting upcoming cars shows, swap meets and progress on my car. -

Spent some time over the weekend getting a few things done before the engine and trans go in. -
I have that set up minus the Baer MC. Everything fit nicely but I haven't finished installing everything to give any feedback on performance.
-
You guys might want to look into rivnuts for future projects. They work really well for adding threads into sheet metal parts.

Installed the rear sway bar, proportioning valve, removed the a/c evaporator to rebuild the a/c system and did some cleaning. Time to order a few parts and consumables. I'm hoping to have the engine and trans in about 2 weeks but also have to drop some trees and grind stumps in that time frame as well. I'm hoping to have it ready to go for Goodguys at the end of July in Puyallup Wa. If not definitely Goodguys Pleasanton Ca in November. -
I did pump them to full height and you are able to disconnect the hoses in the up position. They do lose a small bit of fluid in the process though.
-
They lock into place at the fully up position so there is really only two positions, up and down. For doing work from a creeper they are at the right height, at least they are for the Camaro. I did an oil change and a couple of other tasks under it with enough room for me to comfortably work. Dealing with the undercar layout, that's a different story. For the wife's Equinox they are a bit tall for oil changes seeing that it's high enough to comfortably change the oil and filter on the ground due to the forward drain plug and filter location. For doing our Montes or any older car with higher clearances they will work fine. I just can't use them on my Silverado 2500 or K5 Blazer due to weight. The hoses I don't know if they can be remove during use or not. I got these for now to be able to get the Camaro off the ground for oil changes until I can get a two post lift installed. There's not a lot of points to jack those cars up safely.
-
I was just disappointed that they weren't low enough to go under the Camaro without extensions.
-
I bought a set of these so I could get my Camaro SS off the ground. I still had to make extensions to fit under it.

EFI won't necessarily get you better gas mileage or at least not a significant improvement. Want gas mileage, add an overdrive and gear the rear axle appropriately. -

I picked one up about a week ago. I hit the Hot Wheels section a Wally World every time I go.

SPLATT71MC replied to Sharon's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I have rallys and 18x9.5 Torque Thrusts for mine. I did run 18x8 and 17x8 staggered Torque Thrusts for quite some time too -

From the research I've done is that the old external regulators were mechanical and had a tendency to have voltage spikes that HEI modules don't like.

Finished sealing and painting the tunnel modification and removed the column and auto brake pedal to make way for a third pedal and floor shift column. -

No pictures but I removed the front seats and carpet so I could finish welding in the trans tunnel so I can get it seam sealed and etch primed. The next step are swapping the steering column from a tilt column shift to a tilt floor shift, installing a clutch pedal set and hydraulic clutch master. I will also be taking care of various things in the engine compartment while the engine and trans are out. -

Finally checked the fit on the new wheels and tires. I have room to spare. 275/40/18 on 18x9.5 5.75 BS.
