  1. Rob, thanks for all your years of service. I know that Joe, CK and Dennis will continue to do a great job.
  2. I purchased the one at AutoZone, works great and only $8.99. Thanks for the heads up!
  3. Sadly, Alice Brock who inspired the song Alice's Restaurant passed away a week ago at 83.
  4. Dan has done excellent work for me in the past. What will his shifter plate do differently than my stock one? How much does it cost?
  5. I think it was Dynacorn, but I am not sure.
  6. I purchased a DynaChrome bumper from The Filling Station for my 62 Impala 13 years ago. Excellent quality and has held up very well.
  7. I purchased a 1970 numbers matching "frame off restored" SS454 15 months ago. I have spent about $10000, doing most of my own work to correct the following: Air cleaner was damaged, heat stove was missing, tires were old, HVAC controls defective, AC hoses incorrect, AC compressor was Chinese, instrument cluster case and printed circuit broken, tach was inaccurate, auto level system leaked, sun visors needed replacement, alternator was defective, battery was old and cables incorrect, fuel gauge was inaccurate. Front clip gaps were bad, heat riser missing, carb needed rebuilding and new choke, correct floor mats missing, washer pump bad, hoses and belts need replacement, bad front control arm bushings, bad exhaust manifold gasket, broken exhaust hanger. My point is that these cars advertised with many defects can cost a lot more than you think to make it right. Fortunately I bought mine for a reasonable price, mostly knowing what it needed.
  8. Which one will give you a level ride?
  9. Some members have used CC501, what is the difference between them and cc507?
  10. My first choice would be to use the Moog Cargo Coils, they are progressive and become stiffer as you load more weight in the trunk. The ride height should be stock. Another solution is to install air shocks and use only enough air pressure to level the car based on the load.
  11. Google: Hagerty Valuation Tool, and you will find 3-4 values there. You can join for free and then you can also see the values for a 1-4 car.
  12. Let us know what it sells for. .
  13. I purchased plastic fender liners from Amazon earlier this year. The fit was poor with some holes drilled wrong. I recommend that you order from a source that one of our members has used and had good results.
  14. I had a 76 Monte Carlo with a 400 V8, AC, swivel bucket seats, and a Landau top. I bought it in 1977.
  15. I purchased reproduction covers which are black and painted them with SEM Color Coat. Mine are blue and I got an excellent match. Check out their colors and see if you can find a match for your color.
  16. I have seen better cars for sale at half the price. I hope the poor chump that buys it tries the AC before he purchases it. .
  17. Can you get a box end wrench on the top? If you can't reach it you can use a large pry bar to work the car body sheet metal up enough to get to the bolt or nut, whichever it is. If the issue is a stripped bolt that won't come loose you can use an air chisel to break the bolt. I just went through this on my 70 last week.
  18. The favorite feature on my Monte is the Turbo 400 transmission. My other old Chevy is a 62 Impala SS, 327/300hp with Powerglide. The 3 speed transmission is a great improvement over the 2 speed when doing car club tours in hilly country. You can't downshift the 62 at speeds over about 30 mph when desending grades. I can downshift the SS454 at just about any speed. The disc brakes with the dual master cyl. also makes me feel safer when desendng long steep grades. We have a lot of mountains here in Oregon.

  20. The rheostat in the headlight is a likely suspect if your only issue is the light circuit. I thought you indicated that the entire cluster was not working, not just the lights.
  21. The printed circuit board has several separate circuits with common grounds. If every circuit is dead, I would check the grounds and the connector on the wire harness to the circuit board. It is doubtful that the entire circuit board would fail at the same time. If you replace your bulbs, I would recommend using LEDs because of the difficulty in replacing them once everything is back together. LEDs last much longer. If you remove the cluster bench check all the bulbs before installing the cluster because the bulb sockets are somewhat sensitive to a good connection.
  22. Here's what the latest Hagerty Valuation Tool shows for a 71 SS: #1 $76400 #2 $55900 #3 $39200 I don't see it as a #1 or a #2 maybe a #3 My 70 SS is nicer than that and I consider it as a #2.
  23. Good observations Rob!
