black07ss Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Hello all, I gave my original carpet to another member years ago so I do not have a template to work from. My question is does the carpet go all the way under the sill plates? If memory serves me correctly it does or at least to where the screws are located. The original sill plates seem to have a screw recess also for carpet to be under the plate. Thanks in advance Bob Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Don't remember about original but I cut mine just on the outside of the screws just in case it needed to be moved a little. Almost to the outside edge. Can always cut a little more off but cand add it back on. 4 Quote
RON T Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Mine under the screws, figured it would pull out otherwise. 4 Quote
Leghome Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I cut mine a little short and Steve is right you can't add back and this is the voice of experience talking LOL 1 1 1 Quote
Canuck Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Bolt the seats etc in before doing final trimming. My original carpet went past the screws. The screws went through it. 5 Quote
1970mcss Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Like Arron said. Bolt everything in. I let mine sit a day or so and then trimmed the sill plates and the lower side panels 1 Quote

black07ss Posted October 21, 2023 Author Posted October 21, 2023 Anyone have some pictures how it is cut out around the gas pedal? I found these on line, not sure how detailed to get or impair the linkage. 1 Quote
black07ss Posted October 22, 2023 Author Posted October 22, 2023 Console question Did you keep cutting down the center for the console to go down that little bit more? Seems like a large gap at the front. Quote
jft69z Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 I just put a minimal cut from what I remember. Quote

Thanks Joe, The carpet is somewhat loose at the top of the tunnel and the console has a gap there as you can see in the pictures. Dan said his had a gap also. Quote
Dtret Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 Is it possible that the console cars had a thicker pad up top? Quote

TheBMan Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 @black07ss I replaced the carpet in my '72 a couple of years ago. I trimmed my carpet to the outer edge of the sill plate and screwed through the carpet. Hope that helps! Quote
