Welcome to the FGMCC! Great group of people and a wealth of knowledge. Your car looks great and nice color combination! Built in the Flint Plant like mine but yours is an earlier build. Unfortunately, Flint cars usually mean no build sheets to be found. Hang onto any other paperwork you may have and enjoy your new ride!

My understanding on TCS system because I have it operational on my 1970 SS. Dennis is correct on the single green wire with a loop for a 2 terminal plug. The sensor in the passenger head only controls the TCS operation. (on a big block the actual temperature sensor in the drivers side head is for the temperature gauge or idiot light - totally separate from the TCS) When the engine and sensor are cold at startup there is full vacuum to the distributor. As the temperature goes up the passenger side sensor I believe it then grounds out and the relay mounted on the wire gutter on the firewall then energizes the solenoid on the intake manifold and closes vacuum to the distributor. This causes a notable drop in rpms. From this point there is no vacuum to the distributor until the relay gets a signal from the transmission that it has shifted into 2nd gear. Then the solenoid allows full vacuum to the distributor. From this point the transmission controls the system hence "Transmission Controlled Spark". Most people don't use the setup because of failure of the components and or lack of performance.

Hi Guys, I attended the Hagerty Sponsored Greenwich, CT Concours D’Elegance Event yesterday and I wanted to share the story and some pictures with you. It’s a two day, invitation only event with a variety of exclusive cars from across the country. Saturday is based on automotive style, performance and innovation for the Concours De Sport including a Touring Event through Greenwich CT which is only 5 miles from the NY border. Sunday’s Concours D’Elegance features a meticulously curated selection of vehicles, embodying the pinnacle of automotive design and engineering. I first need to go back to last year’s 2024 Eastern Meet at Carlisle, PA where a gentleman came up to me and started asking me questions about my car. He then stated his name is Charles Vrana and is a judge and curator for the Greenwich, CT Concours D’Elegance and that he really liked my car. He then asked me if I would like to show my car at the June 1, 2025 event. The class would be Muscle/Performance - Full Sized 1960 – 1972. I agreed on the spot and thanked him for the invitation. After spending many hours detailing my car over the past few months, yesterday at 6 am, I drove an hour to the Greenwich, CT Concours D’Elegance event. Charles was supposed to be the class judge but unfortunately he could not make it and Wayne Carini from “Chasing Classic Cars” was asked to judge the class. One of the cars scheduled to be in my class was Wayne Carini’s 1961 Ford Starliner but he decided not to show it since he ended up having to judge the class. The Muscle/Performance - Full Sized 1960 – 1972 class then consisted of only 7 invitational only cars and was to have a Best in Class and 2 other Class winners. The cars selected by Wayne were a 1967 Blue Pontiac Grand Prix with a 428 cu in 4 speed (Best in Class) (the owner told me he also has a 1971 Blue Monte 402 4 speed and he took a FGMCC business card!). Next was a 1960 Black Dodge Polara Convertible with a max wedge motor (Class winner) and a 1962 Black Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible also with a max wedge Motor (Class winner). The others cars invited were a 1964 Red/White Top Buick Wildcat, a 1970 Green/Grey Top Buick Wildcat, a 1960 Light Green Chevy Impala 348 cu in 4 speed (a friend of mine from Long Island) and my 1970 SS454. Unfortunately, I did not get an award but it was still an honor just to get invited to such a prestigious event. Wayne did acknowledge the rarity of the Monte Carlo SS454 and while looking over the car he pointed out the design of the chrome fiber optic bezels as unique and stylish and a rare option! He also noted that it was interesting that this was the first time he has seen my car because he lives in Portland CT which is only 20 miles away from my town and thanked me for bringing it. I was also surprised to meet Classic Car Consultant/Historian Donald Osborne from Jay Leno’s Garage. He came up to me and said he saw a 1970 Monte Carlo was listed in the program and stated “he just had to see it”. Seems he has a liking for the “elegant body style” and was impressed with my car and also thanked me for bringing it. A professional photographer for Hemmings Motor News also took some photos of my car and asked for my information. I did receive many compliments on my car and many “I didn’t know Chevy made a Monte Carlo SS454 model” and “I never seen one before today”. I also had some guests take our club business cards that I had available for the taking. Hopefully, our club and cars will get some more recognition! There also was a class for Post-War American Buick Riviera 1963-1973 and many other very interesting and rare automobiles spread over 18 classes. Best in show went to a 1932 Duesenberg Model J Speedster! (Not sure how these pictures are going to load up)

Hi Rob, I can offer info on a factory AM/FM 8 track stereo radio 4 speaker setup which I have. I attached a schematic for a factory radio which shows the speaker outputs were crisscrossed for superior stereo effect from front to rear. You will need to determine if you want to follow this setup or split your stereo to just front and rear. The factory rear speakers used a bonded three wire, one black wire for shared ground and then blue wire for right and dark grey wire for left. This wire was run under the carpet on the passenger side and I attached a link below to one for sale on ebay for your review. If your after market front speakers are not marked for ground or signal then as long as you wire them the same you should be ok. https://www.ebay.com/itm/253358189128?_skw=1970+chevelle+rear+speaker+wires&itmmeta=01JMNQZ18JQA3EGNJMG5MWC044&hash=item3afd532a48:g:dXIAAOSwYGNZlNA0&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dw3%2FWzsVDIoevwZBipDkOR8CHjd7p268NZUI4zcAN3HfEcfTm%2FEi%2BlZIpbNeQZ1rkBw8OKP8Wq0dl5TCZqYfP4225CjaIvKw%2BT%2FSLpnzMRjy1JIohS6G1bhp%2FqVDrRrVbzTQQxnkugen7stDvtHZ3jR06PbwEN1OF2T5%2FaJVt7cX4krGYF6TmaoClzTf0NMRWyardYWw8KNMn%2BXH6hYnSilaFunYKnAiMFBFYQlo9ieer2caZM73pU5ndB4Fd%2FVZF7QU0XPFaEP5fLbnzli0fC|tkp%3ABk9SR7yU_LelZQ

I saw this article on Hemmings online about the 2025 Auto Mania Show in Allentown PA which took place back on January 17 - 19. They highlighted this 1970 Monte Carlo for sale. Looks like a modified cowl hood and an overall nice project? Here is the link; https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2025-auto-mania-car-parts-and-memorabilia-under-one-roof/?uemlid=929b8f2ffad804155e6173ba85438bde9f3199eb48198ad35f658000cebc68d8&utm_content=other&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EDaily Recurring 2025-02-11&utm_term=eDaily Newsletter

Unfortunately, Ralph Wyatt has passed on but thirty plus years ago he was a First Generation Monte Carlo legend. He restored and parted out numerous Montes and may have built the first Monte convertible back in the 90's. You can search our site using Wyatt and find posts about him from Leo and others.

1970 SS built in Flint second week in June and shipped to Sherwood Chevrolet in Johnson City, TN.

Joe is correct - from the 1970 GM Monte Carlo Heritage package. A lot of good information in those booklets.
-
Hi Carl! I just happened to be looking through the 1970 Monte Carlo Specifications booklet and came across this page on interiors;

Also, just missed this nice black 71 sold at Mecum; https://www.mecum.com/lots/1131490/1971-chevrolet-monte-carlo/?aa_id=628467-0 See the post "Mecum Kissimmee 2025" under "Cars and Parts For Sale Leads

Brian, Congratulations on being part of the 20+ years group and your contributions to this great club!

Welcome! The radio you describe with Delco label number "21AFM1" is for a 1972 model and a 1970 would have a leading zero. U79 code is correct for AM FM Stereo radio. 1970 radio would also have green tinted dial numbers along with a green lens. Note; there are different inner knobs for stereo radios versus mono knobs. Sounds like a nice car you have and are looking forward to some pictures.

Monte Owner Has A Question
Jim Boczar replied to Rob Peters's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I just removed the manual bench seat setup and installed a power bench seat setup in my 70SS. Here are pictures of the manual setup. The "S" hook is located more towards the passenger side of the seat. -
See the attached 2 pictures that show the 9 pin connector wires and the Photofact sheet which identifies the wires. The 5 row of pins are for a 4 speaker system (2 front and 2 rear) 2 ground wires (black) for the front and rear speakers along with the individual 2 front - LF & RF and 2 rear - LR & RR speaker wires. The 4 row pins are 2 ground wires (black) 12V is yellow & Lamp is grey.

Need input on this '70 at auction
Jim Boczar replied to TheBMan's topic in Cars and Parts For Sale Leads
I know you stated "I'm mostly concerned with paint and rust. Numbers matching would be a bonus." but I few things I noticed are the driver's side exhaust manifold appears to be 1975 and up version which might rule out numbers matching engine. 1970 Monte would also have dual horns mounted to the hood latch support - I see the wire hanging but no horns? There would also normally be the front harness wires mounted to the driver's side fender well but they could be tucked up under the fender extension? You will also need all A/C hoses and the compressor could be questionable. Definitely need more photos/info in my opinion. -
Congratulations! Nice looking car and a great Christmas present for yourself! Good luck with it!

Looks to be a nice car. Late build date July 1970 and is a Flint car with the rare broadcast sheet. Only the second Flint built broadcast sheet I have seen so far since the actual build sheets are no where to be found for flint cars.

Carl, The hole measures 5/16 inch in the License Light housing. See picture. I saw your other post and I used the top rear light bulb for the tail light fiber wires. I will add the trunk location hole in another picture if you need it. Jim

Welcome to the club! Groton CT home of General Dynamics Electric Boat submarine base! There are a few members that live in CT and one big CT car show on the east side would be the YYCC Brooklyn CT Car Show held in September. Montes always look great in Black!

I will try to add a picture of the solenoid location and the "little fuse" is actually a relay device. There are also rubber and steel vacuum hoses.
-
Hi Greg, I had sent you a PM the other day in regards to these wires. I believe the black and blue wires are for the TCS solenoid which connect to the silver "little fuse" on the wire gutter. There is also the green wire with a jumper (2 terminal connector) to the temperature sensor in the passenger head. Another wire should come off the little fuse and go down to the transmission switch on the driver's side. The TCS solenoid would mount on the intake near the alternator bracket. This solenoid controls vacuum advance and most solenoids are discarded for better performance.
-
One other thing to note is, I believe that 1970 slats were flat with no grain as seen in the second picture posted by Dennis above. Another 1970 item only.

The numbers before the CRN would be the date of the block assembly 4 digits, 2 for month and 2 for day which would follow a leading "T" for Tonawanda factory ie. T0313CRN. You can check other engine components for dates if they are GM factory items - like the the intake manifold, distributor and heads if you pull the valve covers. If the stamped dates are before your VIN date month and week, chances are it might be correct. The block itself should be stamped on the top back near the bell housing with 3963512 for 1970 454 and also have a date code stamped nearby for when it was cast that can then be checked against the body tag month and week. "Chevrolet by the Numbers 1970 - 75" book by Alan Colvin is excellent reference for correct part numbers and date codes. Jim
