  1. If I am not mistaken Steve Demers (Z20) sold a set of these sport mirrors awhile back on ebay!
  2. It's called TCS transmission controlled spark. Consist of a relay on firewall, wiring to a solenoid on the intake manifold, a temperature sending unit in the cylinder head, vacuum hoses from carb to distributor and a sensor in the transmission. Purpose is emission related to stop vacuum advance to distributor in low forward gears. I am sure this has been discussed before so try search on TCS for more info. A lot of owners removed them and went with direct vacuum hose from carb to advance unit on distributor bypassing solenoid.

    A few more ?'s

From what I read here and elsewhere not all plants stamped the block under the alternator with the vin #. The numbers you found are correct for a motor for a Monte. My SS is another Flint built car and I have just the engine build date on this pad also. You can look on vin plate or the driver's door blue tag for the actual car build week and month and verify that engine crn date preceeds it. You should be able to see the vin # on the small vertical pad near the oil filter. From the looks of the car I would say it is a little rough but it appears to have the right stuff.
  4. I know the frame part number is on the side of the frame rail in the left rear - but I thought I read somewhere the vin is stamped on the top of the frame rail not far from the part number???
  5. According to Chevrolet by the numbers by Alan Colvin that block was used in 72-75. Almost identical to the correct #3963512 block but not matching numbers.
  6. Very sorry to hear about George. I hope someone from the Club can attend or be able help out His Daughter. His replies were always helpful and He will be missed.
  7. Sorry to hear you are stepping down, but I can fully understand your situation. I must say thanks to you for starting this club and website. Being one of the early members and watching it grow, I feel you should be very proud of what has been accomplished here. It is a great club with great people! I hope you will now find more time to work on the Coke Machine! Thanks again!
  8. This is very interesting and I would like to know the outcome also. Please post either way.
  9. Rob, I will try to email you the assembly instructions from the 1970 overhaul manual. The check ball is actually not under the power piston but is located in one of the holes next to the bores. It is held in place by a "T" retainer and another spring. The choke stays closed by the rod which goes on the thermostatic coil mounted on the intake manifold. Let me know if you get the email.
  10. The shield has a part number and the firing order stamped on it. It's purpose is to protect the carb from engine heat so the fuel does not boil and helps with hot engine starts. I have seen some with it and some without, not sure if it was a dealer installed item or from factory.
  11. Thanks!
  12. Wondering how to go about changing email address on user profile?
  13. 70& 71 Monte's with the SS package were void of cruise control, because the level ride compressor would be mounted on the driver's side inner fender well. This is where the cruise control module would be mounted on a non SS car. If you have the compressor there and the cruise control module, a picture would be nice. My guess would be that since you have documentation on the SS package and none on the cruise control, then somebody removed the compressor and added the cruise control. The compressor was usually the first thing removed when the system started to malfunction. You can check out the SS page and note location of the unit.HTH.
  14. First pain - remove all the plastic trim pieces around the windows, sunvisors, mirror, dome light, coat hooks, rear sail panels, piller covers, shoulder belts and clips. Next pain is headliner edges are glued all around(back side is same as front except for sewed seams). Last pain is three holes to choose for the rods(mark which ones were used). As always, things are easier to remove then to put back. I would let a professional do the install. New headliners do not have any holes punched in them.HTH
  15. When you turn on the lights does the gauge drop at all? Could it be the tension on the fan belt? Also, check the positive junction block on the radiator support where the small wire from the positive battery cable goes to.HTH

  17. Just the question I was looking for the answer to. It seems Black is the color, and I agree. Once again, thanks to everyone for help on this and other questions in the past.
  18. I safely removed both wiper arms this evening. I must say thanks for all your help. I wish everything was so simple. Thanks again Rob and Andreas. Rob, we ended up with another three inches of snow and now their calling for more on friday. I guess the cruise nites will have to wait a little longer.
  19. Thanks for the help. I will get to them this weekend. We are getting hit with another snow storm. Already used the snow blower to clear a foot of snow this morning and now it's coming down again. Where's spring?
  20. I am looking for some help on how to remove both wiper arms without damaging them. Do you need a special tool for this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    CRN engine code

My 70 SS454 has the CRN engine code. According to the NMCOA the CRN code is correct for the 70 454 with turbo hydramatic trans.
