  1. Happy Independence Day everyone!

  3. I'm going to buy some new grille mounting bolts so it will look better than the 53 year old ones that are on it at the moment.
  4. There's a local car show coming up on July 12th and they have a "work in progress" category. We got the front and rear of the new headliner glued in place today. I'm getting my 72 Monte ready to go to that, and I installed my core support cover panel, grille, headlight extensions, and the taillight extensions.
  5. I'd definitely take them both and drive them on alternating days.
  6. If it was half that price with all the wrong parts needing replaced, then it would be worth it to buy it and fix it with all the correct parts.
  7. I've only got to stretching out the new headliner more, to form a crease in the fabric, so it gives me a line to know where to apply the adhesive for a permanent install. Most of all the wrinkles are out before gluing it in.
  8. Safe travels everyone! Have lots of fun!
  9. Joe, I still want the forest green hat, but instead of a black hat, can I get a royal blue hat? Doug
  10. I do the same thing. I was referring to it getting constant lubrication from the oil in the pan, unless a person runs the engine low on oil.
  11. Thanks for posting pics! All those Monte's are beautiful 😍
  12. The timing chain and sprockets should be getting their oil lubrication directly from the rotation of the crankshaft slinging it onto the chain and crankshaft sprocket.
  13. Safe travels for all of you heading to the meet, and hopefully you'll get a reprieve from the extreme heat.
  14. Great job Thomas! That looks awesome!

  16. If the brakes are hard to press, then like Bob suggested, it's a bad check valve on the vacuum booster or a failed vacuum booster. You can press in on the diaphragm rod on the booster while plugging the vacuum hose elbow fitting and look and listen to hear if the diaphragm is moving on its own. If it does, then it has failed and needs replaced to get power brakes functional again.
  17. Thanks Ron! I'll check the local Ace Hardware to see if they have something.
  18. If your 70 Monte had dark green vinyl interior with color code 784, then ask the vendor if the 71 and 72 interior kit is the same color code as the 70.
  19. Ed, Great progress on a big project! It's looking great!
  20. If you plan on fixing up the Monte and selling it, then I'd keep as close to stock as possible, because there are those people who are looking for an original car to buy. But, if you plan on keeping it forever, then why not modify it to fit your wants and needs and keep the stock parts that you've removed if you want, or you could sell them and make some extra money to buy the next part you want for the car.
  21. In my opinion, all first gen Monte's rock!!! I don't care for the 73-77 body style, or the 78 - 80 body style, but the smaller 81-89 body style looked better to me. I wouldn't mind owning an SS model in those years.
  22. Still mainly looking for a set of black factory inner bucket seat belts if someone on here has some.
