New Member. Found the 72 I had in HS and bought it a year ago.

Welcome to FGMCC and congrats on finding your Monte! -
Same here.

I agree with a vacuum leak. Full AC should only come out the rearward facing vents, and on Bi-Level, it should come out the rearward facing vents and the floor vents. I haven't looked at my HVAC box since I installed a brand-new heater core in it in 2017, so I don't remember which or how many vacuum control door modules there are on it. My car is still in the process of getting painted right now, so it doesn't get driven anywhere yet.

Denny, that dash sure looks purty! It would look great in my 72 Monte, but I already did the same to my dash - cleaning, adhesion promotor, and sprayed it with SEM black paint. It was factory Green, but I changed my interior to Black.

Do it! The dyno runs give you your gross HP and torque of your engine on a stand, but like you said, it will be easier to tune and modify it while on the engine stand, vs in the car. Then you can subtract 20% to get your net HP and torque at the rear wheels. Peace of mind knowing what your engine has, and that it should be running the best it can until you decide to upgrade or modify something on it later on down the road.

Sorry for your loss Willie 🙏 -
Congrats Chris!

Yeah, Adam is his name. Heck of a nice guy who has a vast wealth of knowledge about transmissions and torque converters. I know I got my receipt included with my converter.
-
Ron, Where did you buy the uni-strut looking material for the left speaker bracket? Local hardware store like Ace or bigger like Home Depot?
-
I think it was in 2023 when I had them build my converter. I don't drive like a grandpa or grandma. My Monte is in the process of getting repainted for the last few years, so I've only drove it down the street to my body shop friend's shop a couple of times, and I haven't been able to drive it out on the roads yet. Hopefully we are painting it within 30 days now. The built 414 ci Big Block I have in it, has a Lunati Voodoo Camshaft 10110703LUN cam, valve springs, timing kit, with oversized Ferrea SS racing valves, heads opened up some, big tube Hooker Competition ceramic coated headers, etc.

I talked to the owner over the phone before I ordered mine from him. He was very, very knowledgeable and explained why they need all the info on your vehicle in the custom order/build form. so it helps them build the converter to match your car's build. He stated that their converter stall speed will always be at the stated rpm it is built for and isn't a variable rpm stall like 2,800 - 3,200 rpm. I think I paid around $390 - $400 shipped for mine when I had them build it for me.

https://www.a-1perf.com/ I had this company build my 2,500 stall converter for my 72 Monte. They custom build the converter to your engine, camshaft requirements, transmission, rearend gear ratio, rear tire size, exhaust, carb, etc. They have been building custom torque converters and transmissions since 1959, and their converters have been used by many racers, including my personal good friend that drag races his fox body mustang. They're very familiar with the variable rpm stall issue that quite a few B & M holeshot converters exhibit.

Looks great! I'll have to make something for mine like the driver's side bracket that you made. The Rockford Fosgate speakers I'm using have a deeper magnet on them, and it wants to hit the cluster ribbon cable.

Welcome to FGMCC Jake!

Did you ask the support rep how much of a commission they get from those way overpriced parts?

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?
72 Monte Carlo replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I didn't work on the headliner this evening, but I did get the new black package tray trim and insulation pad down off the storage rack in prep to install them soon. I did mount the new Cerwin Vega 6x9 speakers to the bottom of the package tray and ran the heavier speaker cables up to the new JVC deck. I powered it on to listen to them and the front Kenwood speakers sounded like crap, so I swapped those out for the better sounding Rockford Fosgate speakers. They have a little bit deeper magnet, so on the left side with the instrument cluster, I'll have to fab up a short extension for one of the factory angle brackets so that the speaker can sit forward a smidge and down in its pocket area. -
Jim, I think the blow proof power valves are the best thing to keep from popping them. It could have just been the age of the PV causing it to pop. l think the 3310 carb I have is a 3310-2 as well.
-
Very nice article!
-
For those of you who have installed an amp in the trunk of your Monte Carlo, where did you mount the amp at - on the floor directly behind the rear seat divider, or on the divider itself?
-
The Holley 3310 series is actually rated at 780 cfm. I have built them before with the better anti-blow out power valves, vent tubes to prevent hard braking from flooding the fuel bowls, etc. They are a great carb, and I had better results with tuned Holley carbs vs the Edelbrock carbs. On my current 414ci fresh built big block, I have a new Holley Street Demon 750 cfm carb on it.
