  1. The only Vertical seal that I knew about was the one between the door glass and the quarter window. I do not have a parts book so I can not look up the one you are talking about. I have to assume you are not talking about the Horizontal one which mounts on the quarter panel. If I get what you are talking about, it would be attached to what may be considered by some people as the Sail Panel which is the panel where the Monte Carlo script lettering is attached. If this is what you are talking about I will have to look at mine since I did not know there was a seal there. Rob
  2. If welding is an option for you I would weld. I would weld over rivit any day. Welding would be a more rigid fit and I would think it would be less bondo to finish off if done properly. Rob
  3. I can not say about the interior of the 72, but I can not think of any markings on my 70's interior. As far as the exterior on the 70 and I think all models it was in three places. For sure on the 70 and 71 it was on the back right side just below the trunk and I think on the 72 it was in the same place on the trim which goes between the trunk and bumper. Then on both sides on what I think is call the sail panel which is the panel between the rear quarter glass and back window. Check out the photo album on this board. Rob
  4. Rather than change the bumper I think I would but some kind of "air scoup" which you could mount behind the grille or just under th bumper with the tubes running to the brakes or air cleaner. I am sure someplace makes some kind of a scoup which is maybe an inch or two high and maybe several inches wide which could mount out of site so as not change the outward appearance of the vehicle. 5. If you are going to use the whiskey I would use some of the best like Crown Royal. You say you want a nice smooth surface. Crown Royal goes down my surfaces as smooth as any and you don't need any additives like ginger ale or even ice. By the way I think the whiskey is for drinking. If you have enough you won't see the fish eyes... Sorry about not being serious about this.. It sounds like you have gotten some good suggestions. About the only thing I could suggest is taking it to a body shop where you know some of the people and ask for some free advice on what may be causing it. Why spend alot of time and money for fish eyes. See the post about my trim between the rear bumper and trunk for my wasted time and money on this trim part and you will know what I am talking about. 6. My original Monte I purchased in 1970, the front pads lasted nearly 50,000 miles. 40,000 or more of that was open highway miles. When they needed replaced I put semi metalic pads on and they overheated and wore out due to the overheating and warped my rotors after 1500 miles. Not knowing any better, I put another set and new rotors on with the same results. Next I had a garage do the work for me but I purchased the parts, again semi metalic. They rebuilt the calipers, and replaced the perportioning valve, 1500 miles later they were bad again due to overheating. When I finally took it to Chevrolet, they told me the pads must be Organic pads not semi metalic or performance. The entire problem was the semi metalic pads are too hard and I think the performance pads are even harder. The organic pads are softer and do the job properly. I hope this helps Rob
  7. I have seen them shoved inside the rear spring and also inside the doors. Hope this helps. The most common place is under or behind the rear seat. Rob
  8. I had a problem with mine recently and thought I was going to get into big bucks. My brake light kept going off and comming on. I bled the brakes starting at the one furthest from the Master Cylinder (Right Rear) then the one next furthest (left Rear) followed by the right front and then the left front. Low and behold the light was off when I was done. I took it for a test drive and the *!#*$%#@!#^**^#$@ light started going on and off again. I found out the wire from the emergency brake switch had come off and was touching ground now and then causing the problem. It more than likely will not be your problem but it is a quick and easy check. Look at the emergency brake pedal assy. You will have to get on your back under the dash with a flashlight. The switch is mounted at the top of the emergency brake pedal and ratchet assy.
  9. Kevin, My firs NEW car when I was 20 was a 70 Monte Carlo. It had the plain Jane hub caps which I feel gave it a much more elegant look than the color keyed hub caps. To this day, I like them better than the color keyed. The Monte I purchased in May has ralley wheels but the original color keyed hub caps are in the trunk. Good luck finding the Plain Janes Rob Peters
  10. Kevin, Did you bid on the two plain Jane hubcaps on ebay. Last time I looked nobody had bid on them and there was less than a day left on the auction. You could have had them for a song. Rob Peters
