  1. You mean something like this ? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-829105/overview/year/1970/make/chevrolet/model/monte-carlo

    Fuel for 454

Have you considered AvGas ? I know its pricey (I think $5 a gallon last time I bought some) but for a weekend driver it all works out. Smaller airports will sell it to you, some have strict rules about being metal gas cans to put fuel in some don't. We have a Sunoco that sells it along with race fuel so I get 10 gallons when I make a run.
  3. Sorry I was mistaken, it was at Mecum 2018. I forgot it had bench seats. 40K should make current SS owners happy, shoppers not so much. Found the original Mecum post with more pictures https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0118-321401/1971-chevrolet-monte-carlo-ss/
  4. Did he buy it at Mecum Last Year? I don't remember that one being there. Pictures look nice, i'm not a fan of the mud flaps.
  5. Thanks again, i'm rethinking my 235 thoughts with all the info and pictures. I think Jegs is spying on me because now i'm getting Drag Radial tire sale emails lol
  6. Just call them and increase the value, of course your premium will rise a little. If they do ask why, tell them you checked out their valuation tool and it shows your cars value for more than you have it currently. Thats what I did with no issues
  7. Thanks for the info, I didn't want to steal the thread but needed an education. Don't ask me why the blue oval people did some of the things they did, I just remembered this from my younger days lol You had to jumper the +side of the battery to the +side of the coil to troubleshoot and bypass the ignition circuitry when testing.
  8. Ok while Paul is trouble shooting educate me. Back in my blue oval days if there was a wire/voltage/connection issue with the Tach the car would turn over/crank with the key in the Start position but would die when the key was returned to the On position, are the bow tie's different?
  9. I'm going to step out on a limb here, going from old memory. I'm going to assume you drove the car home fine just with no Tach. My guess is its mechanical (gauge) because I don't think the car would run/be drivable if you had a bad wire/electrical issue. I'm sure someone will correct me and or give more info on troubleshooting.
  10. Put a new battery in and repaired/upgraded the HEI dizzy lol. Not much compared to what others are doing but I think I lost a few pounds too sweating in the garage. So i'm patting myself on the back for my accomplishments and enjoying a cold adult beverage lol
  11. Great Pic's Joe, thanks for sharing
  12. Beautiful Monte for sure! WOW you got some big number car shows in your area, I thought I was lucky with my last show with over 800 cars. And that included newish Mopars Corvettes and Mousestangs
  13. Yea James, thats going to be my direction, 15X8's 4.5BS with drag radials on the rear. Jegs has a we mount and balance too so I don't have to go to a local tire store. My buddy runs drag radials on his corvette and if he gets caught in the rain on the way to or home he says it can get pretty white knuckle driving. I'm pretty light on the gas pedal if it rains even with the BFG's lol
  14. Can't answer your specific question, sorry but will add Harbor Freight is your friend. Vacuum issues are a PITA so I would definitely get a gauge so you can get readings. Also get a digital temp gauge, you can read the temps off the exhaust manifold on each port. I say HF as I assume your not a mechanic by trade and their prices won't break the bank. I never remember a Holly hissing (which sounds like an air leak) but as with your original question hopefully someone with more experience can chime in
  15. Just wanted to add how much i'm enjoying everyones updates and the pictures, except Aaron who has 2 first gens lol (of course i' kidding). I'm digging Douglas's white Monte for sure and Walters updates on his work in progress. Being a new Monte owner I like seeing what others are doing, and their pictures cause as we all know we are never really done tinkering with our cars.
  16. Thanks, yes i'm going to have a set of dedicated wheels and radials for the track. Hate to get caught cruising around town if it rains without the BFG's on the rear.
  17. Ok I thought there was a wheel and tire sticky but I can't find it. My confusion is Back Spacing. What I have, stock 70 running 15 x 7 rally wheels & p225 60 R 15's no trimmed rear quarters stock suspension. I want to get a set of drag radials to stretch my legs at the track. I want to stay with 15 wheels and run a 235 60 R15 drag radial but I don't know what back spacing to get for the wheel. I currently have about and inch and a half clearance between the existing tire and the quarter at the top.
  18. Well as someone once said, if you don't like the weather, wait an hour cause it will change. So thats what I did and only had 2 smatterings of rain, not enough to even bother rolling up the windows. Great day, over 800 cars showed up and 3 first gen monte's. One with an LS swap, one with a beefed up SBC and drivetrain and mine. Lots of cool cars, lots of cool people and the sheriffs office showed up with their helicopter and K9 unit who put on a cool show themselves. I know the trophy says January, that was the originaly planned date, canceled due to weather so yesterday was the rescheduled date. Even without the trophy it was a great day.
  19. Well I had registered for a car show today, I'm not a big car show participant but they usually pull 650 plus cars so its a good day. The weather forecast hasn't been good but I was hoping for the best, unfortunately the radar map shows 2 hours of rain and scattered thunderstorms over the show grounds this morning so the Monte will sit in the garage. Maybe it will blow over fast and i can show up fashionable late lol. Ok rant over sorry
  20. Thanks guys, never had air shocks before so wasn't sure. Rear sits about an inch lower than the front so i'll adjust accordingly. Did a little off roading yesterday lol.
  21. Just wondering what pressure everyone is running their rear shocks at. Just 2 air shocks each with a line to a T behind the rear bumper, empty trunk and never any passengers in the rear seats. Thanks
  22. I would definitely start by looking for a vacuum leak/issue. Did you T the idiot light or run direct line from the block to the gauge? Vacuum issues will drive you crazy no doubt.
  23. I've never done it on a Monte, maybe someone else who has will step in. I did just help a buddy on his blue oval car, ( and i'll repeat what I said on my other post discard the plastic line that comes with the gauge and go copper. auto meter part 3224) He ordered his gauges from Jegs (their logo gauges) and the water temp gauge was all one piece, meaning the sensor and the connection/bolt and the wire to the gauge were all one piece. There wasn't an existing hole big enough (5/16 9/16?) to get the sensor and nut through so he had to drill. Maybe you have a spare/plugged hole in your firewall.
  24. Just to offer an alternative in case you don't want to pull your IP. I don't see a reason to keep the connections to the idiot lites but thats your decision. This should handle your Temp and Oil pressure. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-10183/applications/make/chevrolet/model/monte-carlo
  25. I'm going to agree with IMR's/Antoine post its a resistance thing. If its an "idiot lite" then its electrical from the sending unit to the IP. You would have to trouble shoot the harness and all connections. My suggestion is not for the purist/all factory oem crowd, since oil pressure is a pretty important thing you could mount a small mechanical gauge somewhere and be done with it. They are pretty inexpensive and I would definitely not use the plastic line supplied with most kits. (auto meter part # 3224 would be my recommendation)
