  1. Ok, 2 part question here, I'm installing a water temp and oil pressure gauge and i'm looking for the easiest and cleanest way to get power to the gauges. Part 1 is for the bulbs that illuminate the gauges so I can see them at night, so tapping into the lights somewhere. Part 2 is for the "electrical" water temp gauge, I need to get power when the ignition is in the run position. I'd like if possible to not have to pull the dash out to wire these in.
  2. All good points Joe, and I am going to have to dig in deeper to it. I just wanted to update the thread that my timeline got kicked out a tad and where I was
  3. Just an update in case someone comes across this thread in a search mode. Right now i'm not doing anything explanation below. I contacted G Force this am because everything I read said their holes were 53 5/8" inch's apart, and even their website description said to use a 1/2" drill bit on the existing holes to fit. I measured mine yesterday (center of bolt to center of bolt) and its 54 1/2". So with all that information in my question their reply was drilling the holes was NOT recommended but if I was any good at fab work (welding and such) they would send me a procedure. Well unlike Joe and others on the forum I have NO fab work skills lol. And no offense to anyone who's done this and offered their experience to me. Since its not "mission critical" for me to continue on my project I'll revisit it once i'm back on the road. I'm just not ready to drop $300 on a part that the manufacturer doesn't recommend doing modifications to make work. Thanks again to everyone
  4. Thanks Tom, thats what I had read about the bolt holes having to be enlarged. I had considered upgrading the engine and trans mounts to poly so I have those in hand, and yes the trans poly mount has 3 holes. Now that you say the ground up X-member will work i'm going to have to make a decision (laughing) but i'm back to leaning towards the G Force at the moment. Summit has a similar piece but Its about the same price so I will probably go with the name brand. Appreciate everyones help and input.
  5. No problem Joe, I was using that as a comparison too for fitment.
  6. Tom, did you have to do any modifications for the bolt holes to line up on the g force? I'm just asking because of some of the reviews. Someone mentioned it was only 10#'s heavier than a 69 chevelle original so I can deal with that. Ive exhausted my local chevelle contacts looking for an original 70 chevelle crossmember so I have to make a decision Monday. I'll measure the bolt distance tomorrow just to make sure I get the right one. The one from OPGI Joe listed isn't in stock until maybe May? And doesn't give specifics on trans fitting like the ss396 one below (which specifies not with a TH400) I know its a couple of bucks more lol, but from what ive spent already whats a couple more bucks now 🤣 And NO free shipping https://www.ss396.com/chevelle/FCM-88N.html?search_query_insert=Y&search_query=transmission crossm&search_results=6&conversion_insert=Y&conversion_product_id=5691&cartype=chevelle&year=1970
  7. Just to be clear, I'm not saying this isn't a serious situation and responsible news reporting isn't needed. But at least around here the local news IMHO misses the mark on the responsible part. And in no way am I criticizing Kevin for posting his original post. I don't consider myself a prepper but maybe I am lol. Living in hurricane land when the 1st storm forms in the atlantic I go through my checklist and check my pantry and such. So i'm not sitting in gas lines miles long 2 days before the storm hits or avoiding fights in parking lots. And yes I bought TP when I was at BJ's two weeks ago and clorox wipes and such also because I had coupons lol. Its not like they aren't going to get used and I don't think there is an expiration date.
  8. Ive prepped for many a hurricane so the hysteria is normal around here lol. But I saw them sitting 4 deep in the gas line the other day, where are you going to go? I saw a quote the other day that TP is the equivalent to plywood for hurricanes. The media IMHO is responsible for the panic, flooding the airwaves with hype, of course thats nothing new
  9. Ok, just to re-update this there are NO issues as of today, I have no clue why but i'm back to normal lol
  10. Ok TJ, 1970 only. And yes there are a ton of knowledgable and helpful people on this site. Happy hunting
  11. Well I'm glad I posted that, even if its not of any interest TJ is going to get a bunch of good information on things to look at and for in his quest.
  12. Something has changed since this morning, and to be clear the issue is me using my MAC computer. When I logged in this afternoon the first thing I noticed is the user name and password sign in is different, I'm logged in on a Windows 10 box now and the login was as it always was. The MAIN issue is I can't respond to messages in threads on my MAC. I can't even start a new thread/topic nor can I PM anyone. In all cases the comment box (where i am writing now for example) is grayed out and I can't enter any text. I was able to post normally this morning.
  13. Just to let you know, not sure if its because of the world situation but these are all out of stock everywhere (pigtails). I got mine (haven't installed yet) and my buddy ordered a set (not sure if the amazon site said out of stock like it does now) but he got a 2 wire set and had to return them. Todd was super helpful when I ordered the LED'S, hope to het them installed this month lol
  14. Hey TJ, I know this isn't your "unicorn" but pretty darn close i'd say. I don't know the car but just saw it posted https://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Chevrolet-Monte-Carlo-SS-454-RARE-1-of-1-919-PW-PB-PS-100-HD-Pictures/193378010384?hash=item2d063a4510:g:2E4AAOSwwDdeaIcQ
  15. I heard there is a big cruise in and someone posted a pic of this Monte, anyone here ?
  16. Man I just dig that picture ! Mine should be on the track this spring
  17. Welcome to the madness Tom, sounds like you have your checklist ready to go. If memory serves me correctly (i'm older than you lol ) someone here just found a triple black in canada, don't remember the year or if it was an SS. A turnkey may be a little more difficult, and pricey, and remember on these old cars parts don't last forever. One suggestion is to have your checklist items with whats negotiable for you, like color, power windows, and so on. Let the hunt begin
  18. I'd say the Monte hood looks like their Chevelle hood (link below). But IMHO their fiberglass cowl hood looks more proportional . https://www.opgi.com/sheet-metal-body-panels/hood/1970-72-steel-hoods/hood-steel-1970-72-chevelleel-camino-cowl-induction-kr02117.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAhc7yBRAdEiwAplGxXw03jmDdiMicltkqPOYI5MoLgjdG_yq0byzBqs_B04nBL9awSu0gDBoCqvgQAvD_BwE
  19. Thanks
  20. Just to make sure, if I run across a Chevelle or ElCamino as you mentioned, does it have to be out of a 454 car, or can it be from any engine option that was available?
  21. So are you saying to search CL or similar instead of going to the suppliers like OPGI and such? I'm rethinking the g-force idea, I don't think I need all that
  22. My plan was to keep the original 400 and i'm taking mine to the transmission guy tomorrow for the rebuild. Of course now I have added my cracked bell housing to my list of issues. Tomorrow will tell. I'm just trying to figure out my options and getting feedback from those in the know, oh yea, I don't weld 🤣
  23. I ordered the 1157 plug wires from Amazon, 1st step. I'll order the LED's once the engine and tranny are back in the car. I have enough stuff laying around as it is now lol
  24. Thanks Tom, i'll have to mull it over lol. Altho I don't want to spend the extra coin i'm leaning toward the G-Force at the moment. Just looks beefier (if thats a word lol) I tried Summit, but there were reviews of leaking and I don't mess around with possible fuel leaking problems. Funny thing with a Holley Carb I went with Edelbrock fuel lines.
  25. Thanks Tom, I don't plan on running any NHRA Stock Eliminator classes so i'm not really worried about the weight lol. Is that just a bolt in or are there some mod's that need to be addressed? I'm assuming the part the Joe linked would be satisfactory, just a bolt in replacement without changing out the rubber insulators? As with any build i'm learning a lot and questioning more lol. I plan on having fun with mine, and yes pushing it hard down the track so I want to do it right the first time. The great thing about this forum is the amount of info available in all formats, on the down side of course the I wasn't expecting I needed one of tho$e lol. But i expected the unknowns and its just part of the deal. On a side note i'm jealous of your black carb fuel line on the SBC to BBC 489 post lol. I went with the black from the fuel pump but couldn't find any in black for my carb that didn't have negative or complaints about leaking fuel. I went with the blue/red, guess only i'll know once the air cleaner is on.
