I’ve shown my 71 monte at car shows in ky. for the past 4 years.. most people walk by and say “ wow, I used to have one of those”! ... wish I still had it... they are gaining popularity in this area and a lot due to this car... one guy went and found a 70 402 automatic after I started showing my 71 and winning.. another close friend drove to Mo just two weeks ago and bought a 71 SS he found on eBay... , ..I show the car for the fun and the circulation of the first gen... the more people see it, the more they want one... then they find exactly how difficult to find and the rairity. Of first gen Monties.. their starting to say, I see chevelles everywhere! I want a Monte Carlo! Keep showing off you car,, they are a beautiful breed! ....Ron...

10 days later , picked her up today after her beauty appt,,, new headliner “ like original style, looks gooood “... plus driver seat repair where some jealous car show attendee knifed my seat... but it’s all fixed now ... wasn’t too bad I don’t guess... 300$ bucks for labor plus the new headliner... she’s ready to go home and I’m glad ! 😎😃😄...... PS . Don’t forget to order new headliner insulation , you’ll need it after 50 hot years 👍🏻👍🏻🌞 -

Took her “71” to the upholstery shop for a new original style, headliner... no way I’m attempting replacing it !... she just loves being pampered , like going to the beauty shop.. I’ll leave her there till she’s happy 😃... -
Nice bike color, those are very comfortable too,. I had a 2008 ultra, got difficult to keep upright with a passenger at a stop, traded it for a 12 tri- glide... I ride in Tenn mountains mostly... but always make time for the Monte.. car shows , ect.. just enjoy doing things to her... I feel free whether on the bike or in the 71... maybe you can scoot down to PA in June... great to chat with you ... I’ll be lookin for that Monte too 👍🏻... Ron...

Nice Harley in the background ,I expect.. looks like it could be a triglide or electro glide..,, nice restoration on the Monte frame by the way 👍🏻

Beautiful day here today, 68 and dry. Drove the 71 to a covered bridge close to where I live.. Colville covered bridge in Bourbon county Ky... was nice to get out and just drive the monte... -
Yes, I just ordered a custom made one thru FGMCC.. you find it on the store forums and download the order form.. then mail form and check to address provided on the form . Ron..

Had to use the old felt washers as well, fit better than foam on replacements

Hope you feel like a young buck by Christmas,, no flu shot for me this year... 😷

Replaced dash side vents ... what a thrill !,,! -
I think they were provided with old originals to match as stated in this forum previous , but it also states they may have not been able to copy identical due to something or other.. anyway They do look good and not as noticeable as you might think. Unless to a trained eye of course .. I’m happy with them until something better comes along or I get the originals redone.. same as with vents on dash are different than originals.. other parts as well.. Ron ...
-
I do have both of them and that is certainly a thought..
-
Actually they arnt that noticeable.. would be great to find a set of original that someone wanted to sell , for a reasonable price.. these are much better than the original that were on mine for 49 years.. but if better ones come out , I’ll get those.. also, I’m sure there are clone fake SS s out there but they are quite easy to detect in others ways ... Ron...

On my modified ss I went ahead and drilled . Was a careful measurement.. they fit pretty snug and look good. As you can see from the following photos, the replacements that I got from the parts place are slightly shorter on both ends .. when installing.- couldn’t go too far toward trunk or curve wouldn’t fit.. btw. The curve on the replacements are same as original.. also included a pix after installing left side ..Ron..
-
Ripleydale is certainly correct, the trunk side is shorter , so that will need to be compensated for before marking for holes...
-
Tape would work for awhile but ,,, would rather have them more secure... these are fairly heavy to be so small... ....will have to see which end shorter and do a little compensating .. I think it’s the side toward the trunk ,compairing it to the original one... thanks guys...
-
Sounds like a good idea, if they are same length to the curve as the old one I’ll be ok 👍🏻..thanks
-
To drill or not to drill, got new hockey sticks from parts place.. 69$..nice but any other suggestions other than drilling holes in my taillight housing?..?.. a template would have been nice with the replacements.. I surely don’t want to Guess where to drill..
