Thanks for the tip! I would have never guessed that.

Hey folks. I am down to the last two pieces of trim removal in prep for body work. I wasn't able to find any info on how to remove these two. If anyone can shed light on this I'd really appreciate it.

Pieced Hood Insulation?
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I ordered the below to cut into the openings... I'll post a pic IF it works. Thanks guys. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SFT-5180 -
Has anyone come across hood insulation that fits into the 9 openings under the hood? Seems that no one makes it but it sure would be nice. Just thought I'd ask before attempting it on my own...

Converting OEM tank to fuel injection question...
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in General Tech
Thanks for the responses. I am using a Sniper and have a 575hp 496. This pump should work perfectly according to Holley. The car came with a brand new OEM tank so I'm sticking with it. So apparently you can't have too much venting...I think I'll run all three vents either through the original separator or more likely to three small breather vents mounted as high as possible. And then switch my gas cap to a vented cap as well. I dropped the tank today and plan to run all new fuel lines from tank to Sniper. -
Hey folks...I am replacing my broken sending unit with a Holley OEM-style EFI fuel pump/sender unit. I'm unsure as to whether I need to retain the 3 vents running to the separator. Maybe this is a question for Holley but thought I'd check here first. Thanks for any advice! here is the pump... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-373

I am contemplating what to do with my trunk. I could use some inspiration if anyone feels like posting a pic of theirs. I have a clean slate ready for... something. Thanks in advance!

Looking for photo of what is supposed to be.....
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in Interior Tech
I did actually paint around the outlet...and it just looks awful because the surface is so rough. I might need to make a surround of some sort and slip it behind the wood. I'm surprised that something isn't missing in between there. The lighter itself doesn't hide it at all. Anyhow, thanks once again for the replies. -
... surrounding the cigarette lighter. I seem to be missing something and it bugs the heck outta me. Here's what I have...

Any torque converter experts out there?
JP_AstroMan replied to JP_AstroMan's topic in Drivetrain Tech
How do you like the 3:31 gear? I can't stand the 4:11 much longer. It would be great if it were a 6 speed! -
Hey folks. I am wondering if any of you know your torque converters. If so, I could really use some help choosing one while my engine is at the machine shop. My '72 Monte was 454 swapped at some point and I bought it with that 454 in complete stock form. So I'm sure the converter is incorrect for what's coming. Here are the important things to know: 496 BBC (approximately 575hp) Cam 3000-6200rpm (cam specs attached) TH400 4:11 rear gears (would like to change to 3:73 soon) GearVendors Cruise RPM - 2800 Tire size 275/45/18 Car weight 4000lbs

Hey folks. I have a '72 with a swapped 454 that has now been pulled and added TrickFlow heads and needed tall valve covers. I am fairly certain the stock brake booster will be a problem when I reinstall this engine. I am wondering if anyone can confirm it will be a problem and also if anyone knows of a booster swap that would make space. I love making space anyhow, so rather than cutting the valve cover I'd rather invest the money into a shiny new smaller booster. Let me know if anyone has any insight. Thanks so much. JP

Primer comes before filler?

So I got the Wagon delivered yesterday. Today I threw on the 275's from the Monte to see how they fit. There is plenty of room to spare so I think 295's are in my future. Needs to be lowered an inch or so. Here is a before and after pic...
-
Fantastic! Thank you. I'll be trying out the 275's off the Monte as soon as the purple people eating wagon arrives Friday. Hopefully there is room to spare for 295's. The rallys will look pretty off on that car. But if not, Maggy the Monte will be getting a second chance at wheels. I've been thinking about this wagon's 80's paint job and as much as I hate it I do wonder what it might look like taking the patina route and keeping it. We shall see.

Anyone happen to know the max tire size/backspacing for the '69 LeMans? This isn't the same as the '72 Monte, is it? That would be awfully convenient.
-
Beautiful GTO. LOVE those seats. I will be needing two front seats pretty quick. The seats in it are from a caddy I think. They are awful and enormous.

You make a good argument, 420. So you think that light green on dark green was a good combo? There is definitely surface rust at the top of the windshield. Probably need to yank it and the rear. Well, on a positive I also recently removed the original headliner that a mouse destroyed. Looks like replacing it will be easy with the windows out. So check this out folks- I got WAGON FEVER and just bought a 1969 Pontiac Lemans wagon today. Mega fixer upper but will be a blast. I love these cars with wide tires all around, lowered a little, just a total future hotrod. Coming all the way from Tucson. Has a 400 in it that I will pull and add HP to.

I found some sort of rubber wheel that goes on your drill and magically removes adhesive. Has great reviews on Amazon. Waiting for it to arrive.
-
Really? Make that single black! I thought it meant a deeper paint job by way of layers.
-
It's going to be a tough decision as to whether I will keep the trim and two tone it or do all the work to delete the trim holes and paint the whole car black (my dream Monte is triple black). If anyone knows the best way to get all this glue off, I'm all ears.
-
I haven't cleaned any of the glue off yet. Not sure how to go about it yet. But I don't see any rust that has gone through. Not even close really. Most of the rust color is actually brown colored glue. So my ultimate plan is to be done with vinyl. I love painted roofs on these cars. I need to remove the trim around the front and rear windows. Is the trim holding the windows in?
