The M20 wide ratio has a lower 1st gear than the M21 or M22 which are the same.

1970 engine emissions sticker placement
70SS396 replied to Joe marino's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
It should be a yellow sticker and the carb number will be different than non California cars. e.g. 7040504 instead of 7040204 -

Dash lights don't work - HELP!
70SS396 replied to Tonka Man's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
There are several ground paths to the lamps on the dash cluster. The screws that attach the printed circuit are some of them. The cluster is grounded by a black grounding conductor that extends from the dash harness to the cluster can which must be a solid connection. Another ground issue is where 1 of the ground paths is damaged or broken at the lamp socket nearest the drivers side speaker. The mylar invariably gets bent down to clear the speaker bracket and speaker.. As suggested in a previous post , it's best to run a test jumper from the chassis or emg brake assembly to each screw that attaches the printed circuit ground to the metal cluster can. -
The black and red stripes should be adjustable to suit your preferred shift points.

Hey Rob, I was responding to Jason who recommended an aftermarket company. I am primarily an original restoration guy and also respect owners who choose to modify their vehicles. Over the years I have identified the resources who can do restorations that are not my forte and am happy to share them with members who are interested in originality. I posted to you awhile ago the the name and phone number of a guy who specializes in classic radio refurbusing and speaker reconing for 1970's GM cars. Best, Paul Not the one who fell:)

Hey Jason, Thanks for your input. To be clear all of my posts are related to original restorations. Crutchfield does a great job with aftermarket equipment but does not provide 10 ohm speakers as required for original equipment radios.

Thanks for your concern Rob but I didn't fall. Hope I don't anytime soon. Best, Paul valle/ 70SS396 -
The drivers side speaker bracket and speaker are unique. It is designed to clear the dash cluster. Aftermarket speakers may be the correct size but the mounting points are different. If you try to make modifications you risk damaging the printed circuit on the back of the guage cluster. All Montes with stereo or AC have the correct bracket and speaker. Cars with am radios without AC have a single speaker in the center of the dash. The best solution for the drivers side is to use the correct bracket and have the speaker reconed. If anyone is interested I can provide the associated part numbers. Hope this helps with your speaker project.

Dash lights don't work - HELP!

The metal housing that the guages are in. There are several hex screws that make the ground connection to the printed circuit for the dash lights. The housing (can) must be grounded for the dash lights to work. -
Dash lights don't work - HELP!

You can do a test by removing the dash pad or access the cluster can from below. Connect a jumper to the emergency brake assembly on one end and touch the can on the other end. Of course turn the lights swith on . -
Hi Rob, Joe Vigil in Monrovia, California restores Delco radio's and recones the 10W speakers. He also sells original speakers, brackets and accessories. His number is 626 264 7233. I gave used his services are they are excellent. Good luck, Paul

There are several ground connections for the dash lights. Stangeba has excellent pictures below. Note the back of the cluster can on the lower right showing the black ground wire. The other end not seen connects to the chassis . There are also several hex head screws that ground the printed circuit to the can. If the black lead is disconnected or broken your dash lights won't work properly. A good test is to take a jumper wire from a solid connection on the dash framework or emergency brake assembly to the metal cluster can . -
Look like chevelle from here in Baltimore 😉

No trouble. The rods I make are acrylic rather than polystyrene. They are more durable and won't deteriorate as fast as polystyrene due to the chemicals in the washer fluid.
-
The flag doesn't deteriorate, so you can use your existing one to measure. I have several in stock if you are interested.

-
The Original is of course on the left. They become brittle over time due to the chemicals in the washer fluid. Also, the fiber cable light transmission becomes yellow with age.

I have full CD2 systems for sale and some parts including the float rod. Email me if interested.

The one in your car is generally for a later year. It's interesting that your mounting bracket is for a 1970. The 1971 bracket has a lug welded to the end for a wrench to pull on for adjustments. GM figured out that some so called mechanics needed this revision to stop some from crushing the side of the Reservoir with a bar or screwdriver to pry against the block. Cardone remanufactures original pumps for your car. Good luck.
-
It's should turn down 90 degrees right out of the back of the pump. It's a steel line and won't bend easily. I have a couple of correct restored pumps which has a new shaft seal. I'm assuming it's a big block car but from your pic it's hard to see if you have the correct lower mounting bracket. The upper bracket is a 1970 bracket.

Beautiful car Glen. Where is the heating blanket and the night light?🙂
