This sure has been a marathon project lasting over 20 years collecting all the parts. As with all hobby projects they always take the back burner to life. At this point the hobby vehicles/projects are deep and there is only so much time and money to go around but for now I'm in for the long haul. -

Spent some time on the car today tacking in the top of the driver side Q-panel. Also dry fit the tub perimeter stainless trim pieces. It fits really good all the way around. Now it's time to finish weld the Q-panel tops and tear it down for final welding. Ugh got tear it down again for the millionth time and hopefully the last. -

Time to get the interior panels out to make sure things are lining up. I'm going to splice the Monte sail panels with the 68 chevelle convertible ones. -
One is left and one is right. Can't mix them up that way.

I got the nos set at a national Monte Carlo club annual car show back in '93. There was a vender that had them for $25 a side. I didn't have much cash on me so I only bought one set. Here is another shot for measurements. It's from the bottom so you can determine the side.

Very good info. I never knew there was different alignment between bias and radial. That must be why my car tracks better with bias tires. I'm a big fan of bias tires and have even run the car in a f.a.s.t. (Factory appearing stock tire) event running the G70s. The M/T ET Streets and ET wheels are fun too.
-
It must be a factory thing with the tire supplier. To be honest I've only seen Firestones on original cars. I sold the '71 SS to my brother and he still has the car. The tire has the nubs on it and doesn't appear to ever been put on the car as well.

My first '71 SS454 came with a Firestone G70-15 spare in the trunk that was the original. It was built in Van Nuys. I'm running Firestone reproductions on my current SS as it was built in Van Nuys too. Canuck where was your car produced?

Quarter glass will fit in there. It will look and function like any other A body convertible from the era. I hope:). -

Thanks for the encouragement! I did a little more today. I think I've dry fit everything 100 times. That's the only way to make sure things are properly aligned. -
Here is some shots of an nos set. The demand isn't there or I would have already 3d scanned them and reproduced them. The part #s are 9861027 & 9861026.

Starting to blend in the Q-panel tops. My objective was to keep as much as the original monte metal as possible and minimize the amount of weld seam. -
I took measurement photos and posted them in your measurement thread in this forum section. Let me know if you need more.

I just dug a set of '71 ss extensions out of the shed that came off a black car. It does indeed look to be body color 19 black. Very cool detail about the '71.

I have had about a dozen or more of these pumps. Gold cad and black are correct depending on the year. My '71 has the original unit and it is gold.

I've been trying to wrap-up the metal work on the convertible. Made some good progress on it lately. Had a helper too. -
The two '71 SS cars I've owned were flat with a low amount of gloss. Very subtle. Here is a question? We're the black '71s actually over sprayed black or is it just body color?

They all appear to be a battleship gray perhaps with a blue tinge. I have an nos set on my '71 ss and they are the same color.
-
The rear shocks are like a battleship gray. I believe the fronts are too.

I wish I could report more progress but it's been dormant over the winter. Hope to be making some progress reassembling the chassis in the upcoming weeks.

What block are you running? Dart sportsman? Thinking about building a 555 too.

I also decided to go with hotchkis 2" lowering springs all the way around. Came across a new set that was an open box for less than 1/2 price so couldn't pass them up.
