  1. Today, Fri Dec 15, I had a good day. I responded to an ad on Craigslist about Monte parts. I drove an hour away to pick up front and rear bumpers, a 72 grille with lenses, a 72 intake with the q jet that works, headlight bezels, window felt trim, a brand new headliner, brand new taillight gaskets, a set of fender skirts (blue), and exterior and interior door handle, and a few books/repair manuals.

  2. 1. After capping everything and fixing the choke, the car was able to start and stay on.

    2. I was in the car because normally the car doesn't stay on for more than 1 second. Now that it stays on, I can manually accelerate it.

    3. The car dies 95 percent of the time when engaging the transmission. If I put it in reverse, it dies after a few seconds. If I put it in drive, the car wants to jump and go, but it just dies. While in drive, I have to hold the brakes and accelerate to keep it from cutting off.

  3. Good news guys. I took the choke off and noticed that the coil was not engaged with the lever. After fixing that, I started the car for the first time in a few days and it stayed on. Sounded a wee bit rough. I turned it off, and tried again. This time it sounded good. Turned it off, hooked up the vacuum gauge and it read GOOD ENGINE AT 2000 rpm. However, after I accelerated, the car sounded normal (not smooth) and the gauge read between 10 and 15. What does that mean? Check out the videos https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ6pxuen6VZ/

  4. Sorry for being vague, I had to rush that post. So, I had my fuel system cleaned and has some inspections done in the car. The fuel sending unit works, but it has surface rust on it and the sock is torn up. They recommended replacing my unit. They then informed me that all the bad gas could have possibly damaged the carburetor. They reccomened changing it out. I'm not an expert, but could old gas actually damage the csrberator to the point that it gets physically damages beyond repair? Would me taking it off, completely soaking the soakable parts in carb cleaner bring it back to new? I already have new gaskets for it.

  5. A new issue popped up. I installed new plugs, which I didn't think would help, but it did. I started the car in neutral and my rpms stayed between 1100 and 1500 which is better than what it was before at 200 to 800 rpm. So I decided to try and straighten the car out on my driveway. I put the car in reverse, nothing. Put it in drive, nothing. 1,2, nothing. I hear it engaging, but the car doesn't move. I looked under the hood to see if i can find any more surprises and I found a rubber hose which appears to come from the transmission, capped off in the engine bay. I'll attach pictures. The rubber hose leads to a pre bent line. What do y'all think?

  6. I currently have (what I believe) are two Glass packs that stop before the rear tires. I'm working on my car everyday and would like to replace them with something that's more quite. What's an inexpensive diy route I can go?

  7. UPDATE: Cleaned the bowl section on the carb. Float moves much better now. New gasket installed also. After tinkering around, this is where I'm at... The Monte can start after pumping gas in the carb 3 times. It can then stay running for a minute to five minutes. Eventually it just stops. After it stops, it's harder to start, but can be done after pumping some gas. This time I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. If I take my foot off, it dies. Here's a link to the video of it running. https://www.instagram.com/p/BZNDpT7nLOr/
