  1. I don't know if this helps but I have stats on a 70 monte and it says for a non 454 the tire is G78-15 (2 ply-4 ply rating) Base, fiberglass bias belted. For a 454 it's G70-15B Base, also bias belted. Those were standard. Optional was G70-15 (2 ply-4 ply rating) except 454 cid. It doesnt state anything about raised white letters and such. I would think they're all black wall and non raised letters.

  2. Lisa, I thought it was a step-by-step video. You just showed the finished peice. I was curious as to how you refinished it. You don't have to get into it now. If your ever by Kohl's you can explain it then. By the way, I didn't know your dad lived in Queens. I have cousins in almost every part.

  3. Haynes manual page 213. Fluid capacities: Turbo Hydra-Matic 250 and 350 *routine fluid change....2.5 qts. Filling from dry (new or overhauled unit) 10.0 qts. (*)= *The small quantity required at routine fluid changing is due to the fact that the fluid in the torque converter cannot be drained unless the converter is dismantled. This was straight from the manual. Hope this helps.

  4. If you're only doing a fluid change then you only need about 2 1/2 quarts. The entire transmission takes 10 quarts. Your torque converter holds about 7. You can't drain the torque converter fluid unless you remove it from the tranny.

  5. I just changed mine and it took just about 2 1/2 quarts. I would go and get a new gasket and filter. They're about $7 and you can get them at any parts store. My old filter was like new when I dropped the pan but why not put a new one in. I would put in 2 quarts, drive it for 20 minutes, check it while it's hot and top off if need be. Remember to change the tranny fluid while the tranny is warm. It removes alot of the built-up sedement better.

  6. I put ATF DEXRON III MERCON. The back of the bottle says GM approved DEXRON III and Ford approved MERCON. I changed my tranny filter and gasket because everything looked wet underneath the car. I cleaned everything up but my main seal is seeping. It's not leaving a mark on the ground but it's annoying. I'll get to it one day.

  7. Hey Tom, just looked at my owners manual and you were right. Page 58, "it is not necessary to remove the pan because a drain plug is provided". I went by what the Haynes and Chilton manual said (no plug). I would have never thought of looking at the owners manual. I recently changed my tranny oil and noticed the plug. That's why I was curious. I would still recommend dropping the pan beacause the plug doesn't allow all of the fluid to come out and you don't know what's sitting on the bottom. It sure makes it a heck of alot easier to drop the pan though. Thanks.

  8. I know our trannys aren't supposed to have drain plugs. My '70 does. I know some guys that have them. I was told that there was a "punch out" where you can add a bolt for drainage. Does anybody have any info on this subject?

  9. The only markings I see (reading from the passenger side lower corner inside looking out)are "saftey plate" with lof in a box in between the word "safety" and "plate". Just below that is "as-1" under the word "safety" and "uv7" under the word "plate". Then under that centered is "laminated" and under that is "antenna" and under that is "dot 15 m20". I don't see any other markings and I don't know if my windshield is original. My car was built Sept. 1969. Hope this helps.
