  2. You can count the pinion teeth while the gears are still in the rearend, but it is a pain. Most all GM ring & pinions have the teeth count stamped in the ring gear, like 41:15 for 2.73, 46:14 for 3.31, 41:10 for 4.10's etc. Also stamped in the same location is the part number & a date code. just rotate the gear and wipe the oil off the edge & you should find it.

  3. The correct # for a '70 model 350-4bbl is 7040202 for a automatic, 7040203 for standard. I think I have a extra 7040202 if your interested. California may use a different number.

  4. I have a NOS grille, the whole grille was chromed first. Then from the back side , the center is painted silver. You maybe able to find a very good used grille, NOS stuff isn't always perfect, my grille has a few rough spots in the front of it.

If you find one, I hope your sittting down when they tell you the price. I've seen them for up to $800, although I didn't pay that much for mine.

  5. Kevin,

Where was you Monte built? My 70 was built in Baltimore, the seat had been recovered when purchased it. I looked in most of the places for my build sheet, no luck! frown.gif when I started my restoration I gutted the interior, everything! The carpet was shot, almost 30 years old, still no build sheet. I decided to replace the sound deadner under the carpet, guess what I found, my biuld sheet! smile.gif It was under the sound deadner on the passenger side front floor board. When I found it, it was very hard to read, 30 years of tar & heat from the exhaust. I soaked it in kerosene and today it is very readable. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif just another place you might want to check.

  6. Kevin,

Looks like you have the hole close, acording to my '70 assembly manual. Give Modern Chevrolet a call for the boot, part #5053-S, it looks like a Soft-Seal part number. Moderns number is 1-800-722-4828

There is also a boot retainer that they don't show a listing for, the cost of the boot is $9.25. The retainer could easily be made from a piece of flat metal (use the boot as a pattern)

Year One has both pieces, the boot, #RP32C for $9.00, and the retainer, #RR687 for $16.95. Year One's number is 1-800-932-7663.

  7. Fred,

I found mine in about the same location. It was under the sound deadner, just to the right of the transmission hump, in the passenger side floorboard. It also was hard to read, I guess all the heat from the exhaust over the years kinda softened the tar in the sound deadner. I showed it to a friend of mine, he told me to take a rag soaked in kerosene and it would remove the tar from it, and IT DID!!! You can read it very well now, except for the top left hand corner, which was folded over and then sprayed with the glue to hold the sound deadner. BTW, mine is a '70 built in Baltimore.
