  1. Iv been driving my 72 Monte all summer and has been running great. It a mild built 350 that was rebuilt last winter.Everything is new.Carb is a rebuilt Holly 650 double pumper/mec secondaries no choke.I drove the car today and it would not idle. Its been cold here in Michigan so I let the engine warm up to full operating temp. before i drove it.Had to Feather gas pedal to keep it running but would not idle.Figured if i drove a little bit it would be ok.Ran great when driving no hesitation during acceleration.Brake torqued it and broke the tires loose immediatly. When i come to a stop it wont idle?In park it will idle for about 30 seconds and rpm will start dropping till it stalls. This process takes about 30 seconds.Checked all vacume connections and all are good.Carb is tight on the intake manifold.Ran great all summer i did not change any adjustments.Maybe somthing stuck in the carb? Thanks for any help.
  2. Choke is open during cold start but not that cold outside.I will check all my vacume connections and try the various gas pedal methods and see what happens. Thanks for all help.
  3. Sounds like my fuel pressure is ok.Now just have to figure out why the engine is hard to start when warmed up.I am running Hedman headers with a 2.5 inch exhaust,Edelbroc performer aluminum manifold and a chrome open element air filter.Engine temp stays at 160 degrees all day long and under hood temp dosent feel excesseve. thanks for any help. Andy.
  4. What should the fuel pressure be on my 72 Monte with 350 mild street motor.A little back ground. It has stock fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump.Brand new Holly 80gph fuel pump.New summit 130gph fuel filter.3/8 braided fuel hose from pump to carb.Carb is freshly rebuilt 650 Holly with mec.secondaries and mec.choke which is in the open position.Fuel gauge is a summit 15 psi liquid filled.Fuel pressure fluctuates between 3to4 psi.Is this good? Also car is very hard to start after fully warmed up.Car starts imediatly when cold but after warmed up and sits for a while have to crank it and pump gas for 15 to 20 seconds before it starts again.Car cranks normal no starter kick back.car idels great and runs fantastic off the line and from a roll.Plenty of gas to the carb.Thats about all i can think of.Thanks for any help. Andy.
  5. I will check volts at the back of the alt.If at 14 I guess the gauge is wrong? Thanks.
  6. New Autometer gauge.I guess it could be bad?
  7. Finally got my 72 Monte running.Put about 200 miles on it and it is running fantastic. It has a MSD ready to run distributor,SSblaster coil and MSD 8.5 wires.Original alternater was rebuilt and new voltage regulater installed.Voltage reg.is the good one made in the USA not from China. When the engine is idleing the volt gage is at 14 volts. When I am driving the gage is at 16 volts?Had the alternater shop recheck the alternater and voltage reg and they both checked out ok.So should I assume if all checks out ok that 16 volts is ok.I thought 14 volts was max. Will 16 volts damage anything? If so what can i do to fix it? Thanks Andy.
  8. I have a 72 Monte with a 350 engine.I have a holly 80GPH mecanical fuel pump and a summit fuel filter 130GPH.Would it be ok to put the fuel filter in between where the hard line comes out of the frame and the fuel pump inlet.Looks like it would be an easier fit than trying to snake the fuel filter with braded line fittings behind the alternator to the holly duel feed inlet.Fuel filter with fittings is about 6 inches long. Thanks for all help. Andy.
  9. I am replacing my points ignition system with a MSD electronic ignition system.DO i keep the spark plug gap at .035 or does it need to be changed? thanks.
  10. Mike when you put the spring spacer up top did you put the rubber insulator in first then the spacer and then the spring or spacer, rubber insulator and then the spring? Thanks.
  11. Just bought some Moog 501 rear coil springs and 1.50 alunimum coil spring spacers for my 72 Monte.Spring shop said I could put the spacers at the top or the bottom of the springs.Does anyone know if top or bottom of spring would be better? Thanks for any help.
  12. Hi everyone. Here is my next problem with my 72 Monte 350 project. My 350 block is a 95-2000 zz4 crate motor block with a new style plastic timing cover. When i went to put the power steering pump on it hits on the timing cover where the power steering bracket fits over the water pump?I looked at the power steering pump on my 70 Monte ss454 and the brackets are different.I assume they are bigblock brackets? It looks like the big block brackets would work, but will they fit on a small block motor? Is there a new style pump that would have went on the 95-2000 motor that would work for me? there must be some way to solve this problem. Thanks for any help. Andy.
  13. thanks Darren.it is a u-shaped bracket with two slots that will slide under the existing bolts and then tighten them down. it fit perfect under the back two intake bolts on the drivers side thats why i thought it might go there.I had the exact same aluminum intake/Holly carb setup on a 72 Monte I had in the 80`s.Dont remember having to lengthen the cable. It must be mounted in the wrong spot.I will try mounting the bracket wehre the coil mounts and see what happens. Thanks.
  14. Went to my parents house today and looked at my 350 engine in my 72 Monte today.Looks like the trans kick down bracket could possibly mount where the coil bracket goes.Looks like i would only be able to use one bolt hole though.Does anyone know where this bracket is supose to go?I want to get this engine running! Thasnks.
  15. Can't remember where it was mounted when i took it apart? Fits perfect on the back two intake bolts on the drivers side. thats where I have it.Is this the wrong spot? Thanks.
  16. I hooked up my throttle and kickdown linkage up to my Holly 650 carb. Both fit fine but cant get full throttle because kickdown linkage only comes out so far.Everything worked fine when it was hooked up to the quadrajet. Is there a way to lenghthen the kickdown cable or maybe another bracket that can be used? Thanks for any help.
  17. Do I need to use teflon tape on any of my aluminum AN fittings that go to my steel braided hose. Thanks.
  18. Attached my new trans lines to my t350 trans in my 72 Monte today.Bottom line went in real easy.Turned it in by hand no problem.Top line did not go in so easy.Started it with my fingers and the put the wrench on it.Could only turn it about a half turn at a time with only two fingers. Not a lot of room up there.Fitting and line are tight but it does not look like it went straight. My question is should i leave it the way it is seeing it is tight and see if it leeks or should i take it apart and redue it?If i did cross thread it can the fitting on the trans that the line goes into be replaced? It looks like you can put a socket on it and turn it out.If it can be replaced is it just a matter of unscrewing the old one out and screwing the new one in?DO I need to put some thread sealer on the new fitting before I thread it back into the trans? Thanks for any help.
  19. I want to install a trans cooler on my 72 Monte,350 turbo trans.Which trans line is the return line.I assume the Bottom one?Dont want to cut the wrong one. Thanks.
  20. Thanks for everyones help.Longer bolt did the trick Nice and tight. One less headache to deal with. Thanks again. Andy.
  21. Iron heads. What is the procedure for installing a helicoil. Thanks for all your help.
  22. Put my headers on my 72 Monte 350 engine today.Front header bolt on passenger side Appears to be stripped. It will finger tighten and then when i put a wrench on it it just spins.I b ought these heads from someone and was not aware it was stripped!Would a metric bolt have a slightly larger thread size work? Need help.Thanks.
  23. I have a steel braided fuel line kit and fittings that will go from my fuel pump to my carb.I have never used braided line before. Not sure how the fittings attach to the hose.It looks like you take the fitting apart and slide the one half over the hose and slide the other half into the hose and then screw them together?Having a problem getting the fitting over the hose as it is frayed and very sharp. Is there a trick to this or do i play with it untill i get the fitting over the hose?Do i need to use teflon tape on all the fitting threads? thanks for any help.
  24. That is it.Thanks Mike.Do you know how it comes out.Do you take the two bolts out and then screw it off or gently pry it out? Thanks.
