Hey everyone,
looking for feedback for my black 70 SS. It’s time to replace the vinyl top. There is minor rust but main reason is due to the top is faded. Car is black on black.
what do you think -1. Replace black vinyl top?
2. Remove vinyl, trim, and have roof painted back
Thank You

Thanks! For the info.
Any tips on removing the dash?

Hey everyone-
hope you’re staying safe and well.
Right now I’ve got some time on my hands. I need to replace the turn signal lightbulbs in the dashboard. While I am in there will probably change the bulbs for gauges.
Scale of 1-10 how much of a pain is this?
I haven’t found much info but I assume I need to remove the dash to gain access.
any tips or tricks is greatly appreciated.
thanks-

Thanks again! I learned something new- only had this car for a few months. Still getting to know it. I appreciate the help. Hope you’re staying safe with all that’s going on.

that’s what I’m thinking- fluid was draining back from the torque converter. But its weird no leaks for the first few weeks and now it just started.
maybe it’s what MC1 said the temps dropped and seals shrank then leaks.

I thought my car was leaking at the pan. I replaced the pan gasket but the real problem was the shifter shaft seal. I got that seal replaced and the leak is gone.
Will look at that in the spring. Many Thanks!

In the cold, the seals shrink. When warm, they expand. Even the slightest space, trans fluid will find a way out.
Also, if the seals are old they become brittle and not pliable anymore.
Figured as much. Thanks for the help!

Hey guys-
I know it’s an older thread but I’m seeing a trans leak on my 70 SS. I think what you all mention is what I’m seeing.
BUT-
I didn’t see any transmission fluid leaks until it got cold. The cars been sitting for just over a month. No leaks until the temps got into the 20s. This happened within the last week or so. The garage isn’t heated. It was a decent sized leak.
Kinda weird- Thoughts?

Thanks everyone- looking forward to it!

I don’t recall- did 70 models come without vinyl tops?
not sure what I’m looking to do yet. I think the cheaper option would be to replace the vinyl.
