  1. Fantastic! Thank you. I'll be trying out the 275's off the Monte as soon as the purple people eating wagon arrives Friday. Hopefully there is room to spare for 295's. The rallys will look pretty off on that car. But if not, Maggy the Monte will be getting a second chance at wheels. I've been thinking about this wagon's 80's paint job and as much as I hate it I do wonder what it might look like taking the patina route and keeping it. We shall see.
  2. Anyone happen to know the max tire size/backspacing for the '69 LeMans? This isn't the same as the '72 Monte, is it? That would be awfully convenient.
  3. Beautiful GTO. LOVE those seats. I will be needing two front seats pretty quick. The seats in it are from a caddy I think. They are awful and enormous.
  4. You make a good argument, 420. So you think that light green on dark green was a good combo? There is definitely surface rust at the top of the windshield. Probably need to yank it and the rear. Well, on a positive I also recently removed the original headliner that a mouse destroyed. Looks like replacing it will be easy with the windows out. So check this out folks- I got WAGON FEVER and just bought a 1969 Pontiac Lemans wagon today. Mega fixer upper but will be a blast. I love these cars with wide tires all around, lowered a little, just a total future hotrod. Coming all the way from Tucson. Has a 400 in it that I will pull and add HP to.
  5. I found some sort of rubber wheel that goes on your drill and magically removes adhesive. Has great reviews on Amazon. Waiting for it to arrive.
  6. Really? Make that single black! I thought it meant a deeper paint job by way of layers.
  7. It's going to be a tough decision as to whether I will keep the trim and two tone it or do all the work to delete the trim holes and paint the whole car black (my dream Monte is triple black). If anyone knows the best way to get all this glue off, I'm all ears.
  8. I haven't cleaned any of the glue off yet. Not sure how to go about it yet. But I don't see any rust that has gone through. Not even close really. Most of the rust color is actually brown colored glue. So my ultimate plan is to be done with vinyl. I love painted roofs on these cars. I need to remove the trim around the front and rear windows. Is the trim holding the windows in?
  9. Yeah, I look forward to learning to do mediocre body work via books and YouTube. But it will be awhile till I have time so that's why I ask how best to slow it (the rust) down.
  10. Hey folks...my '72 Monte is showing signs of rust by way of lumps in the original vinyl top. I realize people are going to give me the worst case scenario by default without me even asking...however...I am going to remove it so the metal can breathe asap. Planning to fix the rust and paint the top. Questions: what is the best product for removing old factory glue? And then my most important question- until I learn to do body work myself (can't afford body shop work), what is the best way to slow down the rust until I learn to fix it properly? Should I just spray some rust inverter on the bubbles? Maybe knock them down with sanding and then rust inverter? I'll post pictures asap.
  11. Awesome, thanks! Looks like I can just pick up this book and be all set.
  12. So I would really like my '72 Monte, that has wide tires all around and soon to have gobs of 460ci power, to handle as well as it looks. I live in some pretty extreme mountainous (nicely paved) roads. It would be AWESOME to drive this car powering through corners. Has anyone upgraded to a sporty suspension? I'd like to lower the center of gravity by an inch or two as well.
  13. Did your intake come black or did you spray it? Looks really damn good.
  14. Very envious of all your garage spaces. I am in the beginning stages (research) of building some sort of large garage. SHOW ME YOUR GARAGE! And thanks for all the engine pics. Got a ton of inspiration from this thread.
  15. Definitely will be close. I'll be holding my breath. Thanks for the peace of mind.
  16. Thanks for the suggestion. I recently ordered the Trick Flow big block kit. Very similar.
  17. No, the Torker II is an Edelbrock single plane intake. The lowest profile by a couple inches in the single plane department.
  18. 4.7 inches for the Q-Jet is fairly low profile, comparatively. I should have mentioned I want to go single plane for the Sniper EFI. So it's really looking like the Torker II is the only for-sure-it-will-fit option. I am a little concerned about heat with it being so low.
  19. That's intense. I just started researching what heads to buy and I'm overwhelmed.
  20. I really like how you ran your wires along the firewall behind the distributor. What did you use if I may ask...?
  21. What's your plan for the engine? I am trying to decide on heads for the 454. Leaning toward EBay heads...reviews are awesome.
  22. It would be cool if we post a pic or two of our engine bays...like a car show online. If there is already an identical thread, just ignore this and point me there please. Otherwise, show me your heads! I am in the very beginning stages...since my 454 in a '72 is obviously not stock I plan to beef it up. Currently it's all cast iron. Heads, intake, and headers are on the horizon. There is a Sniper that came on it and I added the Hyperspark distributor and ignition. Vintage Air also came with it. Cleaned up the wiring mess with some battery blocks. And just installed a new alternator. Would like to clean up the washer fluid pump area since it's not being used.
