  1. i found a donor car from texas. the guy cut the trunk off to make a couch. hacked up beautiful rear quarters. i got it for a really good price because he wanted it gone. its a 71 shell. so now I have a frame and 71 diirs not rusted to get rid of.

  2. i am starting on the 71 this winter. i pulled the vinyl top off and did preliminary inspection. I am seriously considering putting a new roof skin, window channels and front cross brace on. the forehead of the roof is rusted thru about 3 - 4 feet of the 5 - 6. The window channels are rusted thru in about 1/3 of each window. I have a few questions for the group.

    1. is there a brand of repops that are better than others? i have looked at AMD/OPGI/Beldenspeed
    2. has anyone done a complete new skin before and is it as straight forward as it looks
    3. Does the chevelle roof skin work or is there one for monte's now?
    4. if I cut the roof skin off and the forward cross support off the "A" pillar, do I need to weld some support in before hand to keep the "A" pillars from sagging?

    basically you can order a new roof and all the pieces to fix the windows and replace everything.

  3. You have a few decisions to make..

     

    1. mechanical or hydraulic clutch

    2. T56 may not fit the tunnel, so changing the tail or moving the tunnel hole.

    3. custom or old tranny xmember

    4. neutral saftey switch

    5. key release (has to be in reverse for my car)

    6. double / triple check the HP rating on your trans.. it may only be the 350 - 400 HP variant..

    7. getting a shovel that has the pedal setup, or you can buy the whole kit from keisler (other places too)

    8. do not believe the clutch disk you have will work for the BBC.. and I would suggest a shatter proof bellhousing if your planning on more tha a DD

     

    LSx website has a lot of info on the 5/6 speed upgrades.

     

    I am on travel right now, but I have a bunch of info on my computer at the house, so I will forward to you. I was going to change out my car, then decided on a different car.. now I am going for the full blown LS/T56 swap with a pro touring suspension.. OH yeah, and winning the lottery!!

     

  4. So is it safe to assume that the bucket rumble seat and the anti trunk release mechanism will not be re-installed.. cool idea though.. rumble buckets for when you take a poker run, or cruise at a car show.. smile and wave boys, smile and wave.. :insert parade wave: ......

  5. I found a CTS wrecked with a motor and 6 speed in it. 2005 they changed from a 5 to a 6 speed, but it is sketchy on if they used a T56 or an AISIN AY-6 six speed.

     

    The add states GERTAG, but thats the 5 speed they put into it before the 6 speed swap over..

  6. I have been wanting to do this swap for some time now. I have lots of ideas and have gathered lots of information.

     

    LS3 E-Rod / 6 Speed / Pro Touring suspension and more is my plan.

  7. Anybody use the shiftworks gauges??

     

    Looking for a pic of the one with white numbers, and the one with green.. Trying to decide, cool look, or car matching look.. :=} They also list green as a 70 fit, and the white as the 71-72, and I don't see the difference between the three years as far as dash pods go... any incite would be great.
