  1. Ohh no, trailering the car that distance is much easier.. The white knuckle of hearing every little road noise, wondering if your car is gonna make it is much worse.. I know if it is put together right should not need to worry, but 40 yo parts are still 40yo parts..

  2. This was tentatively sched for Friday. Not sure if all the hangovers will be done by that time, but I would be interested if it doesn't impact anything else either. I want to drive around the speedway too if thats possible and get the morning cruise in.

  3. Glad to hear that you found the problem..

Where did you get the carb that is on it now??

I was having problems with a Q-Jet that I was rebuilding to only find out that it was two different 4 barrels made into one, and it caused the carb not to work right.

  4. I have dealt with PCs as old as Win 98 that had never had an AV or any form of protection on them. The User was a safe surfer and the PC was as clean as a whistle.

    ditto

You would not believe, or maybe you will, the things we find on Govy computers. Even with firewalls, IDS, HBSS at all levels of the NOCs and the ship itself running. And pop up pron still manages to get the lan infected with a dummma$$ user..

  5. I have a copy of SYMANTEC AV 10 / and MS Antispyware. It is FREE and not a bootleg copy. I get it from the government (no conspiracy theories plz) for free and they encourage us to give it out for FREE as well. Anyone who wants a copy, I can send it to you on a CD, FTP it to you or whatever. It is for anything up to XP. It will automatically do live updates and keep you current, and you can put it on as many PC's as you can. No limits, and it continues to update as long as you are connected to the INTERNET (cloud).

Also for all you newer MS OS guys then Microsoft Security Essentials is the way to go. It is FREE as well and does an outstanding job as well keeping out the VIRUS woes.

Please keep in mind, when you do unscrupulous things with your computer no amount of cover will keep you from getting a VIRUS, eventually they will get you. These last few programs are for the backyard PC guy who stays away from the bad neighborhoods..

Shoot me a PM if you want the AV-10 or the Spyware stuff.

  6. Out of curiosity, what was the last thing you did before this problem started?? I/e did you go for a drive and park for a while, or did it just start one day when you got in it? What if any maintenance did you possibly do?

How does a rag over the carb equate to a vacum leak? I have never heard that one before.. To me it sounds like it is sucking to much air, and the rag blocks some flow

Does it run better or worse with full choke and cold?

when you depress the pedal, does it seem like it is lagging behind, and seems like it wants to get to higher RPM's but just can't seem to get there?

  7. Well if funds are no problem, I would go with the Keisler setup from auto to 5 speed using an RS-600/500 depending on your torque level..

It is surely a one stop shop.. The sell a kit for the whole upgrade, but I have never had the nerve to call..

If mulla is short, probably would go with Leo for the clutch portions, and then a 4 speed till you can swing the other tranny.. But as expensive a Muncie and Super T-10 are, a 5 speed is not much more I don't think..

  8. I've ordered the RS500 and it's supposed to arrive in a few weeks. I'll document my conversion and let you guys know how it works out.

That is awesome if you would do that.. are you converting to a 5 speed from an auto, or are doing a 4 speed to 5 speed?

I am concerned with the flywheel bearing, mating to the bellhousing, clutch fork alignment (did you go with the hydrolic) and fitment under the floorboard..

  9. Matt, see the canister in pix 1119, left of the yellow piece, that is the "heat thermostat" for the choke/high idle. As the car warms up it pulls/pushes the lever to open the choke up and get the idle off the fast idle cam..

when you start the car, you are suppose to push the excelorator pedal down a few times to shoot some gas in the carb, and this also sets the fast idle and choke. When the pedal is pushed to the floor it allows travel for all these parts. The thermostat puls the choke closed, and the fast idle cam to position, and as it heats up, walla it slowley releases it to operating position..

I would have someone do this while you watch under the hood to see if it is setting correctly, and if it is not, check to see if it sets if you hold it open and pull the lever. If it does work correctly, odds are the thermostat is bad or missaligned. I would go with missaligned, unless they are really rusty or just in sad shape, they can be adjusted.
