not that you'll notice from the seat-of-the-pants, but they are alot easier on the valve guides, and look real cool

    Ahhh the infamous cool points!!

Ok thanks for the advice I will think it over...

Any reason you recommended the Comp Cams verses Crane ??

  2. I'm tinkering with the idea of upgrading to a roller tip rocker.

The 454's rebuild and new Cam could be quite far down the road at this point but I still want something "go fast" added to my 454.

SO..I considered replacing my stock OEM rockers with these from Summit. These would simply replace what I have currently and no other modifications would be made to either cam or heads at this point.

    Rocker arms

This add is claiming "up to 25 horsepower gain" Does that seem realistic to anyone here?

I really don't have any idea of the mileage on my 454, alls I really know is it is a 1978 from a Chevy 3500.

What about the wear on the current valve stems from the OEM units? Will this be a factor?

  3. The guy doing my work is still claiming the engine is running just a little lean.

I'm having a hard time figuring that one out, that Demon 750 Should be pumping enough fuel.

Anyone want to provide inputs? I'm thinking about moving up to a bigger set of jets to cure the problem.

  4. Here's some more pictures of some of other the work I had done this past few weeks.

A new High volume Fuel Pump replaced the old worn out OEM unit which was showing signs of failure, remember the fuel pressure gauge on the carb was fluctuating wildly between zero and 6 PSI??

It is now running and showing a steady 8-9 PSI.

  5. I need some advice here.

I am considering my next upgrade to be one of the March pulley / Serpentine belt conversions. Because my garage is not yet built, This is actually one of those things I will NOT have to farm out to a shop, and I can at least say, I busted a few knuckles bled a little and sweated some over my car. It really bugs me to have all my work done by shop, but never mind that.

My problem is, I'm a little mystified with what Summit and Jegs are displaying on their respective web sites.

Every Kit I look at from March shows the A/C on the left side of the motor, and the alternator on the right hand side. This is as if you are facing the motor as it sits in the car, and you are standing at the front bumper.

My 1972 like everyone Ive seen has this reversed. My A/c is on the right and the alternator is on the left, again if you are standing facing the motor as described above.

I'm assuming I will have to move everything, buy shorter hoses for the AC, etc.

Does anyone have one of these March pulley systems on their 454? If so did you move the A/C and alternator?

Here is a shot of my engine, and how is sits now, A/C to your right, Alternator to your left.

And then a Picture of what I am finding on Summit / Jeg's

**This one is complete with the A/C compressor, since mine has never been converted to R-134 I would probably just go ahead and do so. **

Any idea's if I am looking at the right kit, or if someone makes a kit that will support the current configuration of my 454?

    Thanks in advance!!

  6. Thanks Bill..I'll dig around and see if I can find that paint code.

Dan says...*Patriot and Hedman shorties work really well but have a smaller tube diameter

Here's a good look at a set of Hedman Ceramic Shorties installed on my 454 in my '72... monte-exhaust-and-suspention-2-005.jpg

  7. Bill,

If I may ask what is that paint code on your car, or is it custom? Is that a GM color?

Reason I'm asking is I had a 73' years ago (my first car) that was Burgandy and it was pretty darn close to that...if I don't keep mine black I want to go with either that sort of color or the Dark Cherry Metallic from a 1995-96 Impala SS.
