  1. I purchased SEM Universal Color Coat Dark Midnight Green Metallic (p/n: C-VP5084). I have a 70 dark green interior and I couldn't tell a difference when I painted my kick panels & touched up some other interior items. There are a few distributors and I think I bought mine from Eastwood.

  2. Just went through this for my 70 remote mirror. Ordered a few from a few places that listed them for a 70 Monte and none fit correctly. They were for a Chevelle apparently. Most people here will tell you they don't reproduce them. I went ahead and took mine completely apart and had it 're-chromed. Cost me about $120 and I was very pleased with the results.

If you are not sure how to take it all apart, just drop me a PM and I can walk you through it.

  3. Though I went with steel ones, I installed mine with my fenders in place no problem. As mentioned in other threads about this project, I did have to make a few of the bolt holes larger for them to fit properly. I thought it was an easy job as long as you give yourself plenty of time and patience.

  4. Lots of good ones out there. Personally, I put a TCI Rattler on my 496 and am real happy with it. Some people might consider it a negative, though I don't, is that when you shut off the engine the last thing you hear are the weight balls dropping. I think it sounds pretty cool and it doesn't bother me one bit. Look it up and compare with some of the other big name brands out there such as Fluid Damper. As long as it has proven performance, it's all personal preference IMO.

  5. Way to go Dennis! But, you are keeping us in suspense. Can you tell us what you paid or would you rather keep it to yourself? I too have a set of your brackets and yes, they are sweet!

Also, I know of that place but aren't they closed certain times of the year like mostly through the winter months or something?

  6. I used the 2" spacers as listed above which gave me the rake I was looking for. Even after new springs I just wasn't getting the height I wanted. I have been very happy with them and it hasn't changed the feel of how it rides IMO.

  7. its looks like a 12 bolt open rear end

If you are not exactly sure what you have right now, look on the front passenger side of the rear axle housing of the rear end and post the stamped number. That number can be looked up so you know exactly what you have right now, as long as no one else has opened it up and changed anything.

  8. I had a simular story about a year ago when I took my 26 year old daughter for a real ride in my Monte. She hadn't been in it since the engine upgrade so I bragged up the car and took her out. When I got on it just a little I felt and heard a thump under the hood and felt it in my steering. It was night time and I started to pull over to take a look when I heard and felt something hit along the bottom of the car and out the back. Something told me not to turn the car off so I removed the trunk key from the key ring to get my light out of the trunk. When I got to the back of the car I saw in the distance my new Optima battery all chewed up with my cables still attached to it. I quickly threw it in the trunk and hauled butt back home on alternator power.

My daughter called my wife to have her open the garage but only told her we were coming in hot! So, my wife thought I was probably trying to hide from the cops since she knew what kind of ride I was taking my daughter on. Luckily, I made it home very quickly and the second I pulled into the garage the car died.

At the time, I still had my inner fender wells out so when the battery flipped out it landed on my pass upper control arm then eventually the tire sucked it out and I drove over it and spit it out the rear. New $200 battery and cables plus a whole new billet tray and over the top hold down and it was good as new. The alternator actually survived! Now, I hear that story from my daughter when ever we are out with friends together. Wish I would do something else just as stupid so I don't have to hear about it anymore! :-)

Anyway, glad you didn't suffer any serious damage.

  9. I ordered mine from Dixie Monte Carlo, however, when it came in it had OPG stickers all over it. Perfect fit, color and good quality. Of course if you have any speakers you have to make the cuts yourself just like all the other ones.
