  1. This is what I finished doing yesterday.  I put some different seats, carpet and dash pad in my 70.  I think they are from a 72 and they are black and my interior is blue but I got them for a good price and they are in great condition compared to my ripped up cloth interior.  I will probably get my original seats redone in blue cloth at some point but for now this works out fine.

I also changed the oil and filter today.  I haven't driven this car much and didn't realize it had been 7 years since I had last changed the oil.  It only had 500 miles on the oil change and the oil still looked pretty new when I drained it out.

  2. Mine do not have doors and I want to re-use these covers since they are in pretty good shape and they are blue which are hard to find.  They are also the deluxe covers.  I'm replacing the carpet and seats from some I bought used.  I guess I'm just going to have to be careful and see if I can get them off without ruining them.  Thanks.

  3. I'm changing out the seats in my 70 Monte.  When I went to take the rear seats out, I discovered that the bolts that attach the seat back are gone.  Does anyone know what size and thread type these are or where I can get some new ones?  They used to be there but I guess when I had the body re-done years ago and they took out my seats, they never put the bolts back in.  Thanks.

  4. Thanks.  All of the door panels and vinyl stuff in my interior is dark blue.  I think the headliner was a lighter blue but I'm not sure.  I ripped it out some years back because it was falling down.  My entire interior needs a makeover.

  5. My 70 is also fathom blue and has the blue interior and my factory dash pad was dark blue.  I replaced it with a junkyard one that came out of a 72 that was lighter blue that is also now cracked.  Where did you order yours from?  I want to replace mine.

  6. I tried running the 1411 750 Edelbrock on the BB 396 in my 70 and could never get it to run right and I bought it brand new.  It always had a stumble off idle.  I then bought a new Edelbrock Quadrajet that they were making at the time and the car ran great.  I'm still running this carb today.  I used to run the Edelbrock 1406 600cfm on the 350 that used to be in the car and I could never get it to run right either and I bought this carb new as well.  I'm not a fan of the Edelbrock Performer carbs.

  7. Very nice!  I would love to one day own a 70 or 71 SS.  I found a 71 SS for sale but it's still out of my price range at $12,000.  I'm not even sure what these go for these days as I have been out of the loop for awhile.

I just took my 70 Monte out of the garage today for the first time in two years to get it inspected for another two years.

Anyway, enjoy your new toy.  It is beautiful.

  8. Thanks for the replies everyone. Does anyone use non slotted rotors? I've heard various opinions on these and not all of it was positive, especially for the price.

I think my car still has one of it's original rotors because it has the groove that goes all the way around the face of the rotor in the middle of the face. To be honest, I'm not sure if my car even needs new rotors because I don't think they are warped but I have not checked the thickness and I cannot remember if they have ever been turned. I've had the car for 26 years and I've never replaced them. I'm replacing the wheel bearing and thought I might as well replace the rotors too.

  9. The shroud "tunnel" (or "tube") is the same for both the small and big-block. Just carefully remove the staples (so you can reuse them) and remove the tunnel from your old SBC shroud base, insert into the new BB shroud base, drill new holes in the BB shroud using the holes in the the tunnel as a guide, and insert the staples and bend them back down. Note - be sure to orient the tunnel the same way it was positioned in the old SBC shroud base.

This is what I did when I switched from a small block to a big block on my car. I bought an aftermarket shroud and re-used my small block tunnel as well as all of the staples. It turned out great.

  10. A 10W-30 oil is pretty much out for me because my oil pressure runs too low on it and is why I use a 10W-40 and what I've pretty much ran in this car since I've owned it.

I won't use Mobil 1(that is for another thread) so that is out. I'm considering Amsoil as an option or some people have suggested to me to run oil from like John Deere.

I've got the lucas additive in this oil change and see how that goes.

  11. My 70 Monte has a 396 BB in it and I've been reading lately about how the newer SM and SN oils don't have enough zinc in them anymore to protect the flat tappet cams in these older engines.

What brand of oil are you guys running in your older engines and are you worrying about the lack of zinc in these newer oils.

Some people are telling me to run a HDEO oil made for diesels but I've been reading that even these have had thier zinc levels lowered. Thanks for any ideas or input.

I'm currently running valvoline 10W-40 which I added Lucas zinc-plus to but I don't know if this is the best option.

  12. A great looking car, congratulations. Hopefully you will be able to find the build sheet for your car to verify that you have an SS. My 70 Monte is a Flint car and I have not found a buildsheet for it.

Out of curiousity, what length is your trailer? I just bought an 18' car hauler with a dovetail and was wondering if my 70 Monte will fit on it. I haven't had a chance to put mine on my trailer since the trailer is stored at my girlfriend's house 30 miles away. Nine looking trailer by the way.
