  1. Pat , 1/8 is well within original tolerance , you can adjust and play with the entire car for days months and years , body gaps are needed for road use , these are not models that sit on a shelf ,well i guess some are , i would suggest a massive power slide to the left while burning both tires , should put that bumper right in place J/K maybe

  2. there are hundreds of great painters to every 1 great restorer , the prep metal finish primers fillers sealers discs sandpaper etc that will add up in cost , the final gallon of paint is the least costly of the journey expect 3k-4k in prep and materials possible more depending on level of detail and quality

  3. go to our koniksklassiks.com , we have replaced every single panel on roughly 20 or more first gen montes , the pan pictured has the chevelle under seat pan , if you plan on putting it in in one piece you will need to remove the side crash braces big job , there are several versions out on the market we sell Dynacorn,CHL ,and AMD sheet metal all are good quality really depends on application what pan you want to use , we are currently working on a 70 SS floor trunk wells and NOS quarter replacement as well as full tail pan , the 1970 1/2 Z28 we completed a couple years ago had over 70 percent of the sheetmetal replaced and is currently a top show car , just take your time and measure before you cut then measure again then brace where you need , we do not brace cars for sheetmetal replacement only, they do not move , if you remove rockers and floor braces and crash braces you will need to brace and jig the car

  5. the 1200 number came from research we did years ago with NMCOA members , Ralph Wyatt who passed away a couple years ago , myself , Larry and Ben NMCOA founders and owners for 20 plus years , all our research found the Custom package to be an throw together sales attempt to push some 72 Montes , Willie 454 W code customs again just a educated Guess 50 - 100 tops

  6. GM gap tolerance is .180 -.080 + .120 , the car body , bushings , frame and suspension all twist and move or they would break , if you gap the car to close it may look good when standing still but the first railroad track or pot hole you hit there goes your paint

  7. slots , shims , bend , twist , the best assembly body tool at the auto plants are 2x4's with a rag around them great for setting body gaps , serious cars houses and brain surgery all are within a 1/4 inch , to understand production tolerances fit and function vs perfection is understanding acceptable variation

  8. We have installed many PUI parts in our own cars and customer cars with great results , most if not ALL original GM parts are not very good quality , we have spent as much or more time fitting original GM NOS parts , i spent 25 years working with original GM parts in high level quality control jobs , we have shaved ground trimmed bent twisted and modified all original GM parts during production, i assume you would pay 450.00 for a high quality set of original GM exact reproduction parts , that is exactly what we sold a set of 69 camaro NOS BELT MOLDING set for yep 450.00 our reserve was 150.00 so the camaro guys would , i recently visited PUI and had a full plant tour to say they dont give a is truely insulting and rude at every level and extremely non productive ,i am saddened by this behavior , i would be glad to discuss this further by PHONE and work closely with you to resolve any concerns you may have , i inspected the PUI moldings we have in stock and find them to be very good quality and any concerns are minor at best , they have a very nice facility have worked with me to resolve issue and been very responsive to my concerns , i also realize you can only spend so much to reproduce a part with limited market , a member here made some VERY HIGH QUALITY FENDER AND QUARTER PANEL PATCH PANELS , IT TOOK ME YEARS TO SELL THEM BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS TO HIGH ,but the quality superior , after working with Trim Parts to reproduce the rear back up lenses i am done , little to no thanks and minimal sales leads to failure

  10. hey Mo i did not know Tiawan was a third world nation , i have seen better quality every day from overseas suppliers , gm ford chrysler honda toyota have all had major recalls and quality issues , i worked in quality for 20 plus years humans are mistake driven creatures and quality is also cost driven billet hinges several hundred dollars , repo hinges 39.95

i have and will work with all my aftermarket suppliers to improve quality as cost and customer satisfaction is key to any business

last time i checked Tiawan has a booming free democratic society

they left communist china in i believe 1948 and have fought and struggled to remain free

is not their freedom and freedom of like countries what our troops soldiers and all of us in this country have died and lost loved ones for ????

    third world

    evil Leo

ps start a stamping company in the usa and i will call and place orders for hinges tomorrow

  11. actually the customer was much more involved and had many more choices , i prefer the wild west over what we have today buy what we build or worse yet buy what we tell you to buy and eat what we tell you to eat auto mentality

just try to buy a real work truck today

back in the 7dz you had much more choice right or wrong

  12. yes Sam , your 1970 had the 69 Impala cloth style seats it is a sort of paisly pattern on bench seats only not buckets , yes Paul i have seen a couple 1970 Montes with factory drum brakes , i had one of the few 1972 montes here with 3 speed manual column shift , still have the column most of the car is long gone it was real RUFF when i brought it to the retirement home

some very early 1970 montes had only one front body mount same as the chevelle seen 3 built this way all built in 1969

any smog equipment is very rare

  13. there are a few i can think of

    3 speed column shift cars

    power bucket release

power buckets and power bench fairly rare

never seen headlight squirters installed have seen pieces

    fiber optic stuff

    radio delete

    powerglide 2 speed cars

    front drum brake cars

1970 montes with 69 impala seat fabric factory installed bench only

pontiac and olds rearend factory installed ( had a 1970 ss 12 bolt posi pontiac highway miser rear end 2:56 ratio )

i am sure i could come up with a few more , i have seen some very strange things over the years parting cars out

i have a huge can of coins i have been collecting from parts cars for over 30 years weird stuff in there

and pictures from parts cars that would make Larry Flint blush

  14. i have been collecting , restoring and salvaging parts for first gen Monte Carlos for 37 years , i was buying wrecked Montes in the mid to late 70's when i was just a young man , we have had every versions here at the shop every single rare Monte has been here , we have seen them all ,when i started buying parts cars i drove them home for 25-50 bucks , never have i ever ever unearthed even a glimpse of a 70 or 71 ss 454 manual car , no parts no pieces no motors no transmissions , i really think they would have surfaced by now , at least a hint of one , i have heard all the stories , the only one that i believe was a dealer installed a 4 speed in a 71 at the dealership ( not factory ) very easy dealer conversion that is the only story that panned out

    my 10 buck worth

  15. 1969 Monte Carlo would be a late 69 build date , early 1970 Monte Carlo would be 000010 etc early 1970 , so a late 1969 would be prior to an early 1970 , very few Montes built in 69 , the one i sold supercoupe was a 1969 car it had only 1 front body mount on the firewall just like the 69 chevelle , all Montes were sold as 1970 model year as an early 1969 release which was unusual for gm to do

ps sorry for quick post my father in law is very sick heart issues
